yep .... 100% agreed30 + DLC seems about right from NRS's impressions so far. But I'm having a hard time believing there will be as many as 14 new characters TBH. That's a few too many for the fans and a few too many for the developers to do from scratch. Mk9 had only had 4 but we know they are going more aggressive for Mkx. But I still think 10 would have been more than enough.
Personally I'm not in favor of having a large roster size. Even before the reveal when we didn't know about variations I wasn't in favor of having a total cast size over 30 including DLC. I always preferred quality over quantity. But now that we know about variations even a cast size of 30 is making me very nervous. I have no idea how they are going to balance that, even with all the EVO players testing for them (apparently). And its not just about balance, its also about how polished each character feels. I just hope the overall quality doesn't suffer.
If I got to decide I'd have 24 characters like in the E3 demo select screen, with 8 new characters.
I agree completely. If the game is balanced, more characters is a good thing.I feel the more the merrier. That means there is a character to fit everyone's style. Maybe your favourite character doesn't make a return but there is a new character that is similiar. It just means that there will be lots of character to choose from and hopefully everyone won't just play one damn character.
mortal kombat x is about embracing change which is why the dragon is different this game is all passing the torch sure some of our favorites wont be in the game doesn't mean to hate on the new fighter becuase of that Mortal kombat x is the futureI don't understand why everyone is loving the idea of new characters. I think It's good to introduce new fighters, but I think that 14 is too many. I could very well be wrong, but I feel like they are going to end up replacing fan favorites with cheap knock offs...
Like Cassie Cage... do we really need a character that's johny cage's and sonya's kid? What about Liu Kang and Kitana's little girl, Kitty Kang?
I feel like it's the wrong move. What if she ends up being a popular character? That's going to complicate the subsequent Mortal Kombat sequels. How are the writers going to continue to include the whole damn family?
I'm skeptical... but I'm not going to pass judgement before I've played the game.
We'll have to wait and see what "the future" is. Mk4 was supposed to be one, with multiple planes and interactables. MkDA tried 10 new characters and fighting styles. MkD and MkA tried a few things as well. But it wasn't until Mk9 that the series really got going again since Mk3. Before the release of MKA Boon said that MkA would be the last game with that generation of characters and the game after that (skip Mk vs DC and fast forward to Mk9) would have a totally revamped cast. Guess what, that never happened. Instead Mk9 was the perfect example of going back to the roots and playing it safe.mortal kombat x is about embracing change which is why the dragon is different this game is all passing the torch sure some of our favorites wont be in the game doesn't mean to hate on the new fighter becuase of that Mortal kombat x is the future
I completely agree! People love Mortal Kombat, and the characters they use. MK4 is a perfect example of this. There's only 15 slots on the player select screen, and only 8 of them were returning fighters.I've never understood NRS's obsession with reassembling the cast every other game. Most other fighting games add 1-4 characters per sequel while retaining the original cast to keep people coming back. With NRS, you have to be a Scorpion or Sub-Zero user or you'll always have to be on edge when a new MK is announced, and I personally find that a bit obnoxious.
That sounds like some hipsy gypsy nonsense. MK X is about following up the best selling game in the franchise (MK9) by building on its success, not embracing change. Change is only good when it improves things. You shouldn't embrace change, your should embrace improvement. MK Deception was all about passing the torch too, and look how well that went? MK9 was so successful because it returned to its roots of 2D fighting, and the original characters.mortal kombat x is about embracing change which is why the dragon is different this game is all passing the torch sure some of our favorites wont be in the game doesn't mean to hate on the new fighter becuase of that Mortal kombat x is the future
no i mean like having fun with the new fighters while enjoying your favorites at the same time passing the torch to the new fighters as well that what i mean when saying embracing changeThat sounds like some hipsy gypsy nonsense. You sir, are a fool to think they should throw that all away and "embrace change."
I think you missed the point of my original point. I never said that new fighters were unwelcome. My concern was that a 60/40 ratio of old/new characters is a little high. Especially when the new characters are unoriginal, imitations of the old characters they're replacing.no i mean like having fun with the new fighters while enjoying your favorites at the same time passing the torch to the new fighters as well that what i mean when saying embracing change
So true….I've never understood NRS's obsession with reassembling the cast every other game. i completly understand but we can forgot mk4-though mk 8 that was midway era when they decide to do all 3d instead of sticking with roots some fughters were hit and miss but Mortal kombat x i believe is truly passing of the touchI think you missed the point of my original point. I want to see new fighters added... if they are actually new and original. Refer to my earlier post about MK4.
Again, as I stated in my original post, I'm not hating on the game. I haven't even played it yet. I'm just skeptical, based on MK4, MKDA, etc....
NRS has really stepped up their game since WB acquired them. So I'm trying to give them the benefit of the doubt... But remember, these are the same guys that brought you MOKAP!
@gosoxtim , pay attention at (1:25) where Ed Boon invokes the passing of the torch...
