We are back with the next segment of TestYourMight's "Road to the Best of MK9"! This week, we are keeping with MLG Anaheim and looking at another match that happened on the EGP After Hours stream: EMP Tom Brady vs. IGL DJT in a Sub-Zero mirror that would determine the future of the Lin Kuei.
Coming in hot off the heels of Slayer vs. Tyrant, what would these two Grandmasters of the Lin Kuei clan have to offer? A lot of time outs, a lot of Ice Klones and a lot of X-Rays by means of Tom Brady. When these two different play-styles clashed, the end result showed us how strong a turtle Sub-Zero could be. With expert usage of his Klone, Sub-Zero becomes a brick wall that results in a frozen flurry of fists for anyone who tries to break through.
Going into this, nobody was doubting the skills of these two players: they were widely recognized as two of the best in the NRS scene. With that said, nobody expected Tom Brady to take the set 5-0. His defensive style of play proved to be superior to DJT's offensively focused Sub-Zero, with Brady being able to run out the 90 second timer in several games to secure a win. On top of that, he was able to use his Klone to set-up some game winning X-rays and even closed the set out with a Babality. That's not to say DJT went without a fight, as he came close to turning the tables on Brady more than once, with every corner switch resulting in a massive loss of health for Brady. However, it didn't prove to be enough that night and Tom Brady secured leadership of the US branch of the Lin Kuei.
It wasn't all bad for DJT though: he ended up taking second at MLG Anaheim. We'll see more about him and Brady in later weeks of the Road to the Best. For now, you can follow Tom Brady and DJT on their respective Twitters to see what they've been up to.
We've got a ways to go before we can get to the Best of MK9. What match should we cover next? What stands out in your mind as the best MK9 set you've ever seen? Keep throwing some names out there, don't let us miss out on anything!
