Exactly the point, how can you accidentally press it if your thumbs aren't down there...

If I held left and down on the right analog or right and down on the d-pad, at least part of my thumb would be hovering over the large, poorly placed back and start buttons. They need to go someplace out of the way.

Yeah it's just never a good idea to put the start button under the dpad or analog. They belong up top by the guide button.
