Question on terminology

DXKO

keep it 8 more than 92 with me
So I have been reading some threads and I see combos being written with numbers 1-4, and I want to know what those numbers represent.

Just made an account btw, played some MK but mostly a newbie. Coming from Street Fighter and Marvel, playing mostly Kitana :)

The 1-4 number scheme is used to help people talk about combos and moves regardless of what system they play on (Xbox or Playstation). So instead of saying triange or Y, we say 2. It's just easier for everyone.

1 = X/Square
2 = Y/Triangle
3 = A/X
4 = B/Circle

Thanks, what do those numbers represent as in what it does in the game? (e.g. 1 = light punch etc.)

Someone pretty much already answered it, but here is an example anyway. So lets say you play on PS and the combo you are talking about is Triangle, square, square, triangle, triangle, so that would translate to: 21122.
