Exhibition/Special Events

PU2011 is part of the EVO 2011 Tournament Season

Starting in early January, EVO is partnering with the top grass-roots tournament organizers to form a regular season of fighting games. Our 2011 season will run from January through July, culminating in the EVO World Finals July 29-31 at the Rio Hotel and Resort, Las Vegas. At each stop of the tournament season, players will earn ranking points that will directly determine their seed in the tournament brackets at the EVO World Finals. With literally thousands of players attending the finals, you're going to want to secure that seed if you want to advance far in the brackets.

PU2011 is VGF Sanctioned

The http://www.videogamingfederation.org/"]VGF (Video Gaming Federation) is a new rating system founded by Xiang from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, a long time member of the community and avid Tekken player. Players at PowerUp 2011 will be invited to join the VGF and be acquire a rating for SSFIV, T6, and/or MvC3 that they can follow on the VGF website. For more details than I want to post here, check out the VGF website and http://www.powerupfighters.com/2010/12/powerup-episode-45-xiang-founder-of-the-vgf/"]PowerUp Podcast Episode #45 with Xiang himself.

Mystery Tournament for Charity

The PowerUp 2011 Mystery Game Tournament will see half of the players' entry fee go directly to http://www.childsplaycharity.org/index.php"]Child's Play ($5 to the pot, $5 to the chairty). Child's Play is a game industry charity dedicated to improving the lives of children with toys and games in their network of over 60 hospitals worldwide, and it is one of my favorite charities. So get ready to play some wacky games and feel extra warm and fuzzy because you've given to a great cause spearheaded by fellow gamers.

The Mystery Game Tournament will still be part of the PowerUp Bonus Structure. I will also be able to provide a receipt to prove the donation has occurred after PU2011 has concluded.

I live in Cincy. I might go. Depends on what my work schedule is like.

I was going to wait a bit longer, but I'd like to announce that we will still be accepting emergency registration at the venue. Mandatory pre-registration doesn't seem to be a very good motivator, and I'd rather not leave people out in the cold.
Prices are the same as they were: $30 for Venue Pass in person, $15 for Spectator Pass in person.

You will only have until 30 minutes before the start of a tournament to register for that tournament. Remember to take a look at the Final Schedule now posted at the bottom of the Event Details page. In person spectators may pay at any time during the event.

I would also like to mention a specific point to anyone who has ordered but not paid for their venue pass online. If you wait until you get to the venue to pay for your venue pass I will not honor the $20 rate; that rate is only for people who complete their order online before April 21st. You will know if you're payment has gone through because your handle/nickname will appear on the Pre-Registration Listing.

So I hope that spurs some people to pre-register and see their orders through to completion. I hope it also quells the fears of anyone who may have thought they would have to miss the event because at-the-door registration would be unavailable.

Remember that we want to put on a good show for all of you, and the biggest part of that is making sure your bracket's run smoothly and are seeded well. Pre-register now if you share that goal. Thanks : )
