With Cyrax, I found that you don't necessarily have to do 3, 3, back-back 3 to do the kick, kick, net combo. You could just do 3, 3, back-back and it'll still launch the net.
Same with Scorpion. You don't HAVE to do 1, 1, back-back 1 for the punch, punch, spear combo. Just do 1, 1, back-back.
It seems like as long as the last button of a melee hit is the same as the special move button , you can just do the D-Pad movements, ignore the last button input, and the special will still work. This can be done with other characters too. Not sure if I'm necessarily explaining this right because it's weird.
