Pointers for a fledging fighter

Greetings!

I've been floating around this site for the past week or so and figured I should probably just cut to the chase and start this thread.

Flat out: I suck at MKII. I played 20 or so matches on Kaillera this evening and lost everyone. This is not an unusual occurrence, though I usually manage to squeak out a win every tenth or so game. Yeah...not exactly uplifting, I know. :-[

While I realize that I have only been "serious" about this game for two or so weeks now, I was wondering if any one out there had some words of wisdom or general tips for a fledging player. Honestly, anything might help me develop. I seem to perform my "best" with Johnny Cage and Scorpion...so any specific tips regarding those characters are also welcomed (I am aware of the character guide sticky...so forgive this redundant request if you so choose).

I appreciate any and all knowledge dropped in this thread in advance and I am fully expecting plenty additional ass kickings in the future :)

Lol I asked this same question not so long ago bud. I was in your shoe's not more then a year ago. You come into the kommunity, your the low man and your hoping for some concrete advice to get you off the ground running.

Well.... the unfortunate answer is simply practice. Believe me buddy, if there was some great hint I could throw your way to help you win a ton of fights, I'd help you out(season of giving and all) lol. But practice is the answer.

Honestly I would refrain from reading the guides, You need to just go out with a blank slate and learn how you want to do things for yourself. In time you'll know exactly how you want to play every situation and that will become your style. But you've gotta get there yourself buddy.

Aside from being practice partners, showing you the occasional combo and helping with a few little pointers here and there, its on you to learn for yourself.

If you want to get really good.

+PRACTICE!!!!!
+get involved with the kommunity. This is one of the best places to start.
+Random select!!!
+be patient, you WILL NOT learn this game in a day or a week or a month or 2 months. Its a process and trust me if you want to and you put in the time you'll get there.

+finally I know I said refrain from the guides for right now. But later down the road look to them for alternate ways of doing things. Be sure to learn YOUR way first tho. Also youtube videos were essential to me learning the game.
Watch the videos and watch how the pro's do it. Look at how they are playing the match ups. Look at distance, look at combos.

some great youtube channels are
CUKO28 --(learned a ton from cuko!!!)
Tenpeaceshow --I believe hes got a vid of myself in there from a while back
Goingyellow-- The owner of this channel is NOT a very popular guy around here, but he has some great videos and I learned a ton from foozers videos and honestly I feel like my style of play is largely based on his. So check em out
MackerfieldLives-- got some top players in his channel
Wario7414-- wario likes to have fun but make no mistake him and his brother are fucking bad asses. Yungnicca(warios brother) kicks the shit outta my scorpion everytime we play and my scorpion is pretty good.
Xiongbros-- kind of a nut case, but possibly the most dominating mk2 player around in his hay day. UNSTOPPABLE jax.
DCIguy01-- CMK's very own. Got some great vids. DCI has a nice raiden.
BTBB99-- awesome player. Great videos, btbb plays an attacking style. check him out

Enjoy the process raindog. Getting good at times will seem really frustrating to you. Believe me I get it. Im still working on my game. But its fun, MK2 is fun! have fun and in time youll improve

But play random select
dont quit on good players
learn from your mistakes

and soon enough you'll be whoopin ass

BTW^ I think I ran into you in psn not so long ago. But I believe I quit on you after one match.... sorry buddy, I dont get all that much time to play these days and I can be impatient with new players sometimes.

add me on PSN-----------> kraptile
We can do some games ;)

I'm always up for helping out a novice. I'm no "elite" per say, but I do know a fair bit about the game and basic strategy. If you have a camera, I'd suggest recording a session, then playing it back to see what you did well vs what you need to work on.

Fairly certain i saw the name "Kraptile" and for a rather brief second got my hopes up of an even match. :) Regardless, no worries about quitting out early. I realize some of the more talented players will regard me as a waste of time at my current level. While I appreciate the offer to play some PSN matches, I think I might just move permanently to MAME. Usually the connection is more solid and nothing bets playing the arcade version...even if it is an emulation of such.

I think I played a set with you last week. Once again, thanks for the games and tips at the end.
