Best I can tell is that a few top players have talked trash on PL and he has been firing back.
Summary:
They are claiming PL is trash and hasn't done anything recently so he shouldn't be considered a top player, in thier opinion.

Noone can ever take away anyone’s accomplishments but if we only focus on or only use our past as a crutch we fail to develop and grow in the present. Where does that leave us in the future?

Pretty much how I see things, You cannot take away anyone's past achievements. They are established can be researched and are facts. However on the same token speaking in competitive terms people evolve, new players pop up, and everyone is fighting for the top of the pile. As such the way things work it is a constant battle for the top spot. If you don't do anything for a long time or are kind of in the shadows you're technically not contributing to anything current. There are no placeholders in this kind of thing. The past is just that...the past. Does that mean X person is a crap player? No. However there's also no way to tell unless X player is in the fray and showing their worth. Can't take away past achievements but those past achievements don't automatically put you over what someone is doing in the here and now.
