opinions on 'side' character

I'm going to main Sinestro
On the side i want to either do zod, continue deathstroke (only nonbs character i've ever really played), or nightwing
I can't decide though
I like zod's up close stuff and laser charging stuff when people get knocked down and stuff
i like deathstroke's variety of options for getting around bs great jumping stuff and pressure
and zoning :3
i don't know much about nightwing except he blows up armor and has pokey stuff and a couple other cool things

i want to start focusing instead of messing around with like 12 so i'm limiting myself to 2

You kind of want your side character to cover your bad MU's. Don't know Sinestro's to give you ideas, but Zod is always a good secondary

Zod is too hard to be a pocket character. Trust me.

DS is somewhat simple but very fun and fundamentals-based. If you play Street Fighter I especially think he's a good choice.
