NRS Might want to tone down Invasion Boss (Quan Chi) AI a bit

With every patch the AI gets a little more difficult, which is perfectly fine for vanilla Very Hard AI where they don't have 5 hits of bullshit armor, but if you compare my experience with Quan Chi 2 months ago:


With my experience today:


The difference between the two is pretty staggering. Quan Chi will now block nearly everything so you can only reliably land hits off of punishes and the only thing you can bait to punish is his teleport, which is easy enough to block. However you can only land one hit before he immediately chains into another combo so your punish options are fairly limited and you have to bait that attack 5 times essentially (if you block in his face you'll usually get 50/50'd to death).

You can argue the first fight is too easy/simple and maybe it should have been a little more difficult but this rendition was ridiculous and generally just frustrating to fight. I don't mind the Very Hard AI in general, hell I even have fun fighting the absurdly difficult ones (Thunder God and Hollywood) but if you stick Very Hard AI into 5 hits of armor it just isn't very interesting. I'm sure there's some middle ground to be found between the two since Hard AI is generally too easy and Very Hard is quite difficult in most situations (immensely more difficult than 95% of online fights against other players for instance).
 
You won on the second try so I don't see what the problem is. Also in the third match you got hit by the overhead every time. Stop doing that.
If you're talking about the teleport I got hit once on the ground in that match and should have blocked that, can't exactly block it in the air (though there's ways to avoid it/interrupt it; not with armor though!); as far as the 50/50 mixups good luck, there's only a few characters that have slow enough ones to where you can block it without guessing; the AI will act according to your position and if you switch positions too early it'll just do the opposite, hence 50/50dom. I'm sure someone's capable of blocking literally everything on reaction and I'd be happy to see that but they'd still get immediately plastered if they weren't extremely conservative about the armor breaking.

When I played him my strategy was to bait out a b2~trance then punish with Raiden b3(2) which would take out all his armor. However I noticed that while trance always came out on hit, it didn't always come out on block...? So I think the AI might have been option selecting :rolleyes:

There's definitely some good multi hit moves that trivialize even semi-difficult invasion bosses, but an interesting approach nonetheless. The AI does some really ridiculous shit sometimes (and is totally free others) so wouldn't shock me if it was option selecting.

I use Buzz-saw Kung Lao for all Boss Invasions. Use EX Hatspin to knock the armor off... it only takes 2 EX hat spins to knock them silly, then keep your distance... get in an uppercut...low hat toss...maybe a tele-port into kick if timed correctly when they throw a projectile.

easier said then done...Quan CHi kicked my ass about 15 times before I finally beat him.

He was way too hard and I dont like how he can do 27% and then at the end put you into the trance to start another 27% combo.

Why cant the Invasion Boss just be AI on very hard without the armor? why make it a tuck tail and run match for 30 seconds? They need to change it to a regular match with Fatalities, ect... just on Very hard AI? No different than the Assassian battle

Agreed! Thank you! I wonder why this hasn't been addressed?? Besides you, I'm the only other person on the KI forums and this one that I have seen mention it? strange??
