been using Kano properly for about two weeks now and really having alot of fun with him, but i need to know a few things so i hope someone here can help me to understand here.

1. what can i anti air with? right now im just using up ball but every now and then it get beaten by the JIP, not too bad as i count as airborne so i dont eat the full combo, but its still annoying, what are his best normals for anti air?

2. best combo from a NJP, preferably something that i can end in air throw for the followups.

3. highest damage corner combos, meter or no meter, i heard somewhere he has a tough to nail 50% but i cant find it, maybe im just looking in the wrong places.

4. why exactly do i hear kano players complain about how bad the up ball is? it seems really good from my point of view, it grants full screen knockdown on hit and only starts up at 8 frames, its a godlike whiff punisher, also im yet to be full combo punished for it on block, can it even be full combo punished?

sorry if this is an unecessary thread, but im really having fun with him and these few pointers can really help me up my game.

upball is your best, most consistent anti-air. other than that, 1 or 4. other than THAT, he has some funky situational stuff from weird distances with his 33 and b1.

2. best combo from a NJP, preferably something that i can end in air throw for the followups.
his damage off of njp is pretty shit.
njp 212 b12 upball
and
njp 212 212 d1 upball
both do 26%. njp 212 j.k airthrow for 24%.

for both max damage AND air throw oki off of njp;
njp 212 j.k exairball for 28%.

3. highest damage corner combos, meter or no meter, i heard somewhere he has a tough to nail 50% but i cant find it, maybe im just looking in the wrong places.
kano's more damaging corner stuff is execution-heavy and risky to go for because of the meter you're gonna spend. he has a 59% that i'll post in a sec but it's both difficult and impractical.
meterless practical combos;
b112 212 212 b12 upball for 37%
b112 212 212 212 d1 upball for 37%
f3b2 212 212 212 d1 upball for 35% (notice a pattern?)
b2f1 d1 upball for 23%
if you reeeally want to squeeze out that damage,
b2f1 d1 d1 d1 upball for 25%
end any of those with choke instead of upball for oki at the expense of 2/3%

meter combos:
b112 212 b12 exknife d1 upball for 40%
b112 212 212 b12 exknife d3 upball for 41% but significantly tougher than the combo above
b2f3 exknife d1 upball for 28%
b2f1 d1 exknife d3 upball for 31%
f3b2 212 b12 exknife d1 upball for 39%

and then here comes the 2-bar corner madness... i hope you plan on getting good at d1 exknife/d3 upball links :p

upball is great imo, i think you may be hearing that from people who relied on it when the upball was 6 frames and safe.

aaaabsolutely. by everybody? no, but by a lot of the cast. here's how upball's unsafeness breaks down;
it's -14, but its recovery has unique tech crouching properties which will make most high normals whiff when people try to punish. you need a move that's quicker than 14 frames and can't be neutral ducked, for example;
scorpion can punish with 33 spear
liu kang can punish with b312
kung lao can spin
to the frame, mileena can roll
etc
but everyone in the game can d1/d3 and get advantage and go in for their shit or do their fast special of choice, be it reptile dash, sub slide, whatever.

hope you stick with him, i think he's a great character despite all the negativity surrounding his placement on the tier lists.
 
Nice to see more people picking up Kano (despite being nerfed to the ground). I've been playing him myself lately and he's tons of fun and satisfying to win with. Many players do seem to underestimate Kano these days and some just do not know or have forgotten how to fight him as he's rarely used.
