Need help for alt fighter. (advantage & why/why not?)

Hello Hello!

Im a Sub player and i enjoy him a whole lot - i love playing him actually.
But i have a major problem on choosing an alt.
I would prefer someone who can counter all the teleporters that Sub seems to be having some trouble with. Probably a fighter who can teleport or a straight up rushdown.

I need help from all of you out there, who knows a ton more about MK than me.
And even though it can seem like an odd question, this site have never failed to help me, course of the willingness to help from the whole community. : )

I've played the following characters abit here and there, course i found them interesting and i can do like the 8 hits - 30% combos on most - just as a starter.
But maybe i fail to play the right "playstyle" for the certain fighter, i dont know?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Reptile - I cant get my head around this guy. I really like the force ball and quick BF2 dash. But he is SOO slow moving, and when i watch tournaments i dont understand how people play this guy so well?

Ermac - I really like his combos. But many times it seems like its only keeping distance and getting in the force choke? I cant figure out his normal BnB strings.

Noob - A cool fighter and simple combos, but might be abit to simple. How much of his gameplay invovles black holes? do u have to use them many times in a fight to zone properly?

Smoke - The fast guy and my old main. But it seems like u gotta be all over the place all the time, otherwise theres no advantage. And many times its just about the 3d12 combo, or 21SB - and u gotta hitconfirm everything into a combo all the time?

Jade - But she seems abit underpowered in damage? and her combos seems abit hard to land, atleast the damaging ones. and i cant figure out if she is a slow or fast character?

Sindel - Pretty much the same as Jade (besides the speed). But i dont know what type of playstyles fit her? And the combos is abit... meh?

Lui Kang - Seems like the best choice for me, for a rushdown character?
Is he the one with the most simple combos if u just practice him for an hour or so? And is he meant to rushdown all the time?

Nightwolf - Kind of a fun fighter, but lacks versatility. And its always the "tomahawk and then 1 dash 1 dash 1 etc" i see every NW player doing this?

Raiden - One of them i consider the most... It seems like he pretty much gotta be at a fair close range, due to fast hits and bad projectiles? But my problem is that it seems like his combos needs mili seconds precision, alot of them? and i hate the combos where u have to teleport in the middle of it.

Quan Chi - I love almost everything about this guy. But he got some really slow combos, which can make it hard for me to not "drop the soap" - What is the key advise main QC players use? besides rune trap.

Cyber Sub-Zero - Kinda fun, but it doesnt seem like a major difference when u play Sub main. Or is it?

Alright... After writing this i really hope it makes sense and people wanna help me out.
The key thing is always to have fun with the character u are playing, and that is why i only listed these fighters.

I need all of your opinions and advice - even if u only know stuff about 1 of the fighters, i would love to hear it.

Do u agree with what i said? If u do or u dont, please explain.
Key advice for some/all of the fighters i listed?
Pretty much anything u gotta say about certain fighter... Why do u play this, what is the best way to play him, maybe got some videos? What combos to stick to? What strings to avoid?
And even if u got - Other fighters to play "similar" to the ones i linked. And why should i play them?

Im not very experienced at this game, and i try to explain best as i can so i can get the help i need.

I really hope everything makes sense.
Every single comment, advise and opinion is more than welcome!

Thanks a bunch!
:D

I'd say stick with only sub zero with as long as you can unless you are out to win tournaments and such.
If you want to play one of them for fun anyway then I'd go for Reptile, Lui Kang, Smoke or Raiden. They don't take long to learn but can take long to master at a high level. I feel like those characters, the ones you listed, have the best chance with the top tiers.

Cheers for the reply!
Im never gonna get into tournaments - Firstly because i have been playing for like 4 months, and that is no where near enough to compeed with people like Brady, Reo or Pig - it would be flawless victory all the way lol.
And it also seems like every tournament is in USA - even if they arent. I dont know where to find out about them, i only find them if someone links in here.

Liu Kang is the obvious/practical choice, being able to actually compete at high levels with just about everyone with enough practice. Standard combos can be learned in a day, mastered within a week. Next all you have to do is learn his IAFB (instant air fireball) and get consistent with it and you have yourself an entry-level Liu Kang. I would say read the high level Kang guide but it got deleted due to server issues. Next would come his mixups and normal attacks, spacing, antiair punches, etc.. Character matchup comes in time.

If you just wanted to have fun with the game and ONLY play online use Raiden. For shits and giggles Quan Chi (if you plan to play offline).

Let me add, Liu Kang can easily punish everyone with a teleport when youve played him long enough and can easily d1-b312 Mileenas' dive kick if teleport characters are your main concern.

I hate teleporters when im Sub.
Mostly Mileena, Raiden and Lao.

But the ones u mentioned: Raiden, Kang and Quan - i will defo try out abit more.
Mostly i just go practice combos and then do 1 or 2 expert ladders.

You probably want to cover your bad matchups, like Kenshi (fuck that matchup), so you need a character that doesn't need to worry about zoning.

Kabal?

NKZero

Here are the match-ups that HAVE to be counter-picked (meaning absolute necessity if you want to have a secondary):
1) Kenshi
2) Kabal

Very tough and advisable for counterpicks
1) Kitana
2) Kung Lao
3) Freddy

Reptile doesn't do too badly against all of them but he still loses many of these match-ups. Kung Lao is a very good choice and either you pick a 3rd for Lao or you just rough it out in the mirror or just go with Sub Zero. Of course Kabal would be fine as a secondary but he has harder execution that anyone.

Many of the characters you listed above aren't good enough to be a solid secondary to fight against Sub's bad MU's.

Yes, one part of it is very much about breaking down people like Kabal and Lao. (i dont have DLC so dont know about that, but i can clearly see that Kenshi vs Sub seems like a 10-0 MU)

About being good enough as a secondary to Sub i think Raiden could offer something solid?
Im not saying he is gonna walk all over Kabal - i dont know what the MU is, but i couldnt imagine it to be much more than 6-4 Kabal advantage?

I have considered trying out Kung Lao aswell, he just seems so boring course everybody is playing him all the time. And his combos seems abit awkward to me, but ofc its about practice.

Which of the characters i have listed would u say is the best choice?

What about like CZS?

Kabal?
yea indeed - but i dont like playing Kabal. and im never gonna play someone i dont think is fun.

firstly about picking my back fighter is how he/she is to play.
and then when i found like 2-3 fighters i can check out the MU.

but no doubt that Sub is a solid player, but in a few cases he got some terrible MU that i need to fix.

Even though i can never play online due to shitty servers.

Pick whoever you think has the coolest costume as an alt.

I would suggest grinding away at your bad MU's with your main, rather than picking up an Alt that you think is going to fill in the gaps.

True what u say. Besides the costume joke :b

But its also because i do like to play atleast 2 fighters in a fighting game.
Back in Tekken 5 i had 3 aswell - even though i had a main, the others were still fun to play sometimes.

Kabal is a little tricky for Raiden but Raiden does fine vs Kenshi. KL/Kabal do the best overall versus Sub's bad MU's but in the end if you put effort into a character, a 4-6 match-up should become more straight forward and manageable. Play with who you like is my ultimate advice. Out of the initial list of characters you made, Reptile seems like a super solid choice, and he's fun.

I really appreciate all the help everybody! :)

And i tried out all our advise, mostly tried with Lui, Raiden and Quan.
But my new secondary/alt is Raiden, he is alot of fun - and most of his MU seems to be 6-4 Raiden advantage. or a normal 5-5.
so thats cool, and he is very fun to play - and he can defo counter Kenshi and Kabal imo . now its jsut all about practice!

Thanks a whole bunch!
