I've been trying to get away from the mindless sweat that is lao.
Most of this will be known but thought i'd throw it all together.
Motaro actually synergises very well with JC
(NP=Nutpunch for below)
Reflect (B+cameo) is amazing in some matchups, useless in others.
For instance you can combo lao if he throws his mid hat at you midscreen, im sure theres lots of others but havent labbed:
Teleport (Cameo) is extremely useful for combo extensions, safety and counterzoning.
Meterless confirms off NP:
F124 is a grounded combo laucher. (note you CAN do s4 trait but the scaling is absolutely bananas)
I tend to go unpunished on block using the teleport here- f124 is normally a death sentence.
You can shadow kick into teleport to either be on top of them for Oki or create a nasty mindgame for the punish.
Ex NP gives you an extremely easy confirm into trait combos
Tail turret (D+cameo) gives johnny some dirty setups and can be great to close out a game,
Midscreen
From a forward grab:

This setup allows you to block any wakeup and keep montaro out to punish also.
Corner:
With trait up NP into tail turret into followup f3 is guaranteed. If there is a gap its going to be like 1f becaue i couldnt. The f3 jails into the laser for a full combo on hit or plus on block.

and with the grab option:
Tail shot i just use as a budget lao low hat- It knocks down on his but its even more plus on block. Can use it 21-tailshot or 214-tailshot to keep people on their toes.
He also has a very fast Fatal blow assist which is very useful for johnny in those sweaty moments where you get a messy combo confirm- just hit Kameo assist as its coming out the freeze frame.
This lets johnny do fatal blow much later in a combo.
