I hatelove this game
Most scenes are guilty of this and none more-so than the NW forums. Back in MK the Skarlet community was also guilty of this but not to the same level. But this thread is not for any one community but rather about ALL of us. The most successful players in this game are those who spend time learning the MU and less time "finding tech"

The most simple of play styles can be effective if they have a game plan going into a MU. It doesn't require in depth knowledge of every nook and cranny of a character to use him at a high level...it requires MU knowledge and a game plan.

The best examples of this are guys like @GGA 16 Bit, @AK Harold and @AK SaltFace
These guys don't just post new tech...they focus on how their character can use the game fundamentals to beat different characters. They focus on stuffing wakeups, baiting mess ups, and spacing more-so than finding a new setup that makes them good.

No person I can think of has more structured Lab time than my best bud @AK Pig Of The Hut. His lab time is always focused on the problem in front of him and wont change until that problem is solved. Right now it is focus on MMH but in MK9 much of that was focused on Lao and Kabal. And he has a history of overcoming those problems.

This is not to say that tech isnt important. Early on the the games life, you have to invent the character. @Zyphox is the perfect example and counter argument to this post. He was all about tech and nobody thought he could find success in this game...but he did and made his tech a part of his fundamentals.

In all honesty I think finding tech is important but I want to challenge the community to stop putting all your energy into tech and put more energy into learning MU. Once you have enough comfort with your character to play and execute well, tech will naturally find you...but the MU knowledge will only come with concentrated practice.

Some players just feel the need to make their names off of trying to find tech while others want to make their name actually playing the game. It happens in almost every game there is.

MU knowledge/ Gameplan above anything else. Rico is a great example, he doesn't really use any weird set ups or flashy tech with BA or AM. he does well off of pure fundamentals, there are many other players like this... he just came to mind. But a lot of tech is MU changing and can change a character's fundamentals in a certain MU.

I believe its a combination? When NRS games are released, other communities do well at our game simply off fundamentals...those players are eventually weeded out once MU's and tech have been explored. There needs to be a balance between the two, but more so MU.

I agree with what you're saying, this game has been out for nearly a year now so most of the ground-breaking tech is gone. What's pretty much left now are the gimmicks. By this point, we should be focusing on developing MUs instead of wishing for more tech. But we shouldn't completely stop looking for innovative tech because these little pieces of tech could help to develop the character further.

I feel like Rico was kind of like CDjr back in MK9. When everyone saw CDjr play in the dominant days of VSM it was obvious that his fundamentals and footsies were just so much better than everyone elses. It's not the case with Rico now as it seems like people have caught up pretty quick, but I remember watching Rico play early on and it looked like he was setting the pace for the development of fundamentals in Injustice.

I completely agree, new tech is fine and dandy but will only get you so far. This game is hugely match-up oriented, and there is no substitute for knowing your matchups inside and out.
