MKAK UMK3 Ermac not unlockable?

Do I have to do anything special to ensure I keep Ermac next time I get on MKAK?
EDIT 2: He didn't just save and I beat warrior ladder with him. Sigh. Tips?

The order you need to press the buttons is just like arcade which starts from the top left button (high punch) and goes down, to the right, then back up like a bowl.
