I definitely wasn't expecting it honestly, I'm not a crazy Shao Kahn fan but it is cool to see him back and playable too

I remember the interview a that Ed Boon said that they were not going to let bosses be playable in Mortal Kombat anymorr after mk 9 came out but I guess you can't really count Shinnok as the boss since technically it would be corrupted Shinnok was the boss for mkx
