MK Meet and Greet Shindig in NoVa

UPDATE - Date is official, this shindig is going down on 9/10/2011!

My friends and I are going to be throwing a party on September 10th where we would like to unite all our fellow competitively minded MK players in the NoVa/DC/Mid-MD area. The idea is for everyone to get to know eachother and hopefully start a legit community here as most of the real competition appears to be in the SoVa area. We want to fix this!

My friend D-Spice has offered to host this shindig and I'm sure those who attend will not be dissapointed. =) As people show there will be food and drink and even a pool for people to partake in if they wish, most of my friends and I will likely be in the water for at least a bit. =P





Once everyone shows up and people have had time to grub up the games shall begin! There are a total of 3 setups for which we can play if enough people show and the need arises, but the main play area will certainly be the theatre room:





I blurred everyone's face but mine as I didn't ask their permission to post to the internet. Most of these people will likely be there.


We're still in the planning stages but I wanted to get this posted up to see what kind of interest there is. Browsing these forums there seems to be a rather large scene in SoVa but not much is going on here in the NoVa area. So if you are like me and would like to fix this just hit me up! We'd love to have you come out and throw down with us.

The location of this shindig will be Aldie, VA for those interested.

Wow, thanks for initiating this man. I'm in Reston, so probably only about 40 minutes away depending on location/traffic. I don't know any other local players, so I can't do too much to spread the word - but if you are looking at running brackets at these events I could talk to some friends who do a similar thing in PA and help with some of the organizational stuff.

Also, doubt that you will need it looking at these pictures, but I have an extra TV/ps3 I can transport fairly easily if it was ever needed.

Sweet, good to hear! We should be good with regard to consoles and TVs, as mentioned we have enough for 3 separate setups, PS3 setups to be specific. We would need assistance in the controller department however, and none of us use arcades sticks so if you prefer stick over pad you will need to bring your own. But other than controllers we should be gold. =)

As for bracket help advice would be very much welcomed, we've done our own brackets amongst ourselves but have never done a truly organized tourney. So if you've got experience we more then welcome your words of advice.

I'll keep you all updated on a date, I'll talk to D-Spice (the host) and hammer out a time frame ASAP.

I think i will be the rookie there lol i m just 16.

As long as everyone is respectful of his house and home he'll definitely be open to future gatherings, it wouldn't be an every week kind of deal but planned events certainly wouldn't be out of the question. That doesn't mean we all can't meet up other places between said events however!

The primary objective of this gathering is for the NoVa/DC area players to finally meet each other and see that there is local competition to be had. The goal is to use this opportunity as a staging area for organized comp. To be honest I'm surprised their is so little going on up here with how densely populated NoVa is, Fairfax is one of the most populated counties in all of the US and Loudoun County has been in the top 3 fastest growing counties for the past 5 years running... Lets get this show started already! =P

Ok all, a date has been decided on! We were going to try and get it in this month but my work is now sending me to CA for the next two weeks and the last weekend of the month I'm going to be in Baltimore. So the next available Saturday that works for both D-Spice and I is August 13th.

We'll likely meet earlier in the day, probably around Noonish or early afternoon. Like I said in the OP there will be food and drink available when people get there and we can all get to know each other as people are trickling in. We'll probably get the games started after an hour or two of everyone arriving. Look forward to meeting you all and hopefully we can turn this into some true competition for Norther VA, DC and Mid-Maryland players.

I'll update the OP.

haha, I was all worried you would pick next weekend when I was out of town. You 1-up'd by picking the weekend of my 1-year anniversary :p If we decide to stay in town, I may be able to come since the actual day is Sunday. If not, I'll have to catch the next one. I'll try to update either here or in a PM sometime in the near-ish future so you guys can have an accurate count of people.

Guys now we have another reason to step up gaming and start a mk or any fighting game here in NoVa.
As you guys know, Tom Brady was Here on Richmond, Virginia To compete in the Civil War 3 Mk tournament. I didnt go (plans), so i didnt see how the mk community is doing. So, i asked tom and his said: Watch on 0:20:05

Dont hate tom, but it is true. He could just lie but he was honest with us. Not that but he also challenge us to step up gaming and mk community. So, where i coming from? Well i think it is take to step up our, both of us (SoVa and Nova players), Stand for our games, and Prove Tom Wrong. So, if you are a NoVa or SoVa fightiing player and is looking for competition or is interested, Please reply either thread.

Hey all, just letting you know that I'm back from my business trip in Cali, sorry for my absence over the past few weeks.

@Creepy: Hell yah man, Brady taunt or no, I've been dieing to get a legit scene start, so much it hurts. Hopefully this will lead to great things.

Nordic - I will not be able to make it out to your event on the 13th. Hopefully it is an awesome time and you guys do it again sometime and I can make it out then.

Due to the weekend being generally inconvenient for almost everyone and the fact that Summer Crowns & Beatdowns happens on the following Saturday we're going to delay this event. It's still going to happen but not until after the tournament on the 20th.

That being said everyone who's up in this thread seriously should go to Mason on the 20th for SCB! If you're serious about wanting to create a local scene do not miss out on this opportunity. I will likely discuss when the Meet & Greet will happen at the event, see what will generally work well for people. Come on NoVa, lets get this show started!

nice i am going to me moving NoVA area by the end of august and few days ago was a bit sad that i didn't see much love for MK there (since there is NOTHING were i currently am at) when i move there i will most def support it when i can

Hell yah man, there really isn't much of a scene in this area at the moment but there are those of us that are trying to change that. I have a pretty dedicated play group between my friends. There's about 5 of us that play competitively but we're trying to spread out and bring more people in. Getting people to show is the hard part though. When you gonna be in the area?

And again, Summer Crowns & Beatdowns, to all those who can make it, please do!
