This game just had its biggest tournament ever at apex 2015. And their evo signups are now more than last year. This 14 year old game is bigger than it ever has been. How is this possible? The game isn't even sold anymore. How does this game keep growing and growing?

...kinda random but...simple answer:

1) Melee players like it, so they keep playing.
2) There hasn't been a suitable replacement for Melee-style gameplay, nor an improvement on it with the last two games, so the much of the Melee community stays where it is and keeps growing there.
