making the best of your weak side?

A problem i've had for a long time in almost all fighting games is that i pretty much find myself depending on having my character on the left facing right (like most player 1 position starts). Lately i've been trying to force myself into playing on the right side such as starting on the right, moving character to the right during lab sessions and such. But when it comes to an actual match i still find myself in the mentality of having to move to the left side and that will sometimes cost me a game. Are there any tips or tricks to help get over this perceivable phobia of playing from the right?
