Main choice

As I stated before I'm new to Mortal Kombat, coming from SFIV I don't know much about the game.

I'm looking for a character to main but don't want to spend time fooling around with all the characters right now. I'm looking for a close range fighter that is not super popular, but can still do well in a competitive setting.

Any help is appreciated!

The game has only been out for a week so no one truly knows who is worthy of competition yet. But if you are looking for characters that aren't used often then try Sheeva, Sektor, Baraka, Liu Kang and maybe Kabal or Stryker.

Liu Kang, Sonya,Baraka(LOL), Jax - they are close range and probably not SUPER popular.
about competetive settings , you have to try it out on your own

Play Jax. Simply mode close range character with a good X-Ray.
