Learning to play UMK3 seriously

Hello everyone, I'm brand new to the forums, and I think I've become addicted to UMK3 since I downloaded in on Xbox live. It is my first fighting game and I was wondering if anyone could teach me how to play competitively. I don't really get any of the advanced stuff I read about and I think it would help to have someone show me in game. I have access to UMK3 on DS and Xbox Live, so if someone could be my teacher or something of the sort, that would be awesome, because I would really like being skilled at this game~ Thanks!

Do you have any specifica gameplay related questions? Because there are tons of threads that might cover what you want to know, plus the guides. Otherwise I might move this to match making.

I might be able to show you the basics. My Xbox Live GT is Crimison Elite. The catch is, I sound awful on the headset (I'm 12 and Scottish so I'll be sounding like a 5 year old.)

Yeah same here man, I've been reading these forums for the past couple of days and decided to sign up.

I'd also like to find somebody good to play against to help me develop my skill. I used to love the MK series when I was younger. I don't know what happened... Sold systems, Arcades closed and I guess I just stopped playing. But anyway so yeah I bought it back on XBLA like 2 months ago? I think it was I played through the arcade mode then kind of just forgot about it until recently. Then I started playing online.

If anybody good would like to put up with dealing with somebody not so good let me know. For once I would just like to play a match without having to hear somebody talking shit all day (when there nothing special) about how you suck. It's hard to make out to when they sound like they have the education of a 3 year old

Welcome to the forum. The best thing you can do is keep playing and don't give up on the game. I'm sure you will meet a lot of MK friends who know game and they will share what they know with you. Check out the Strategy Guides section here at ultimatemk.com and use the search function in the forum, there is a lot of useful information.

Match making would probably be a better place for this, sorry! Nothing really specific, i just want someone good to play with on xbox live so we can talk and play which is much better for me than reading and trying to learn that way.

I played the hell out of umk3 back when it came out in the arcades, but as far as I knew back then in my town there just wasn't the level of playing that I've seen since I found this place.

Do what everyone says, and read through all the guides. You don't have to memorize them or anything, but be familiar with the basics. There are general tactics that work with every character that you probably didn't even know about (I didn't until I read the guides). And don't play against the computer unless you're just practicing combos. They play nothing like real people, and you'll end up learning bad habits that only work against the computer.

Watch some match videos of good players, too. There are tons on this site. It will change the way you play for sure. 8)

My gamertag is just as you see it here, I'm not the greatest UMK player here but I am confident that I can at least give anyone a decent match, and I will help you with what I know.
