Rebel without a scene
So I spent a lot of time in the thread with the poll of whether Kung Lao should be banned from upcoming tournaments. I thought about posting this in that thread, but it seems to have gotten a little out of hand, with more focus on whether this is even viable, other characters glitches being banned previously, etc., while focusing less on actual solutions.
I think the biggest thing to remember about all of this, is that it is not fair to ANYONE. It's not fair to players to have to fight against a potentially game altering glitch. It's also not fair for the Kung Lao mains who have spent hours in the lab, and money to go to these events to be told they can't play due to circumstances outside of their control. The thing that stuck for me from the other thread was there was a lot of differing opinions about the effect something like this could have on a match, which lead me to this solution...
The use of the meterburn glitch should be treated just like a pause mid match. It is up to the player to decide how they want to deal with the use of the glitch. Who am I to tell you that you have to DQ someone for using it?
So basically there would be 3 options
1. Kung Lao used glitch. Kung Lao player must use the meter gained from glitch (whiffing an ex spin for example) and loses round.
2. Kung Lao uses glitch. Must whiff an ex spin, and play continues when both players are ready.
3. Kung Lao uses glitch. Opponent takes that game of the set.
Obviously in situation 2, if the Lao player is a repeat offender, punishment may escalate.
To clear up any confusion and to make sure everyone is on the same page, a player would be wise to inform the Kung Lao player, and any TO or coach of their stance on the glitch before the round (though this isn't the case for pause situations).
This is by no means a perfect solution, and I encourage everyone who has input to please share it in this thread. But pls remain on topic, I love this game and I'm super hype for Combo Breaker, and I want everyone who is coming to this great event to have a good time and play on a level playing field.
