Kitana 2024 - New Patch, Tech, combos and stuff

Hey,

its been a while since ive done a big post like this but with new patch I thought Id share what I know with Kitana. Imma try and keep it to the point, with no waffle. If I don't mention it, it's because I don't use/care about it or ive forgot. Ive hit Elder God/God every season, if that helps.

Will start off with what this patch means for kitana.

Overview Of 27-JUL HotFix

Personally, I hate khameleon as fan converts are why I play kitana, and inconsistency.. But, with these sonya buffs, depending on matchup, it will provide another strong option. I was running Mavado for meter less dmg to save for break as only 900HP but this has changed.

This is my understanding as to what these buffs mean.
Kitana Sonya= Great zoning, great combos, air space control and a bit of mix.
Mavado = Insane combo and conversion, throw combos, good space control, easy damage and improve defence due to trap and armour conversions.

KITANA BUFFS
- Reduced scaling on square wave (db2)
Way more combo expression, as db2 now scales better than fans.

This means Universal convert of 112. This is quite a big change as its her best string (imo), as there are no gaps, is safe (made plus with kameo), is an auto shimmy too.


SONYA BUFFS
  • Sonya back+kameo is now 25F Overhead.
  • +1 on block
Sonya&Kitana
  • 11xxBKameo jails on block, +1 and has great push back
  • Grants a mixup, LOW: 14xxKameo and OVERHEAD 1xxBKameo

MAVADO BUFFS
Mavado has been doing wonders for me recently and his HP was buffed too!


MK1: Kitana 2024

Kitana play style, design and swag is why she is my main main, be it MK9,MKX,MK11 and now MK1. I like throwing fans and being able to convert wherever I am on screen, so that is my focus on kameos most of the time.

Kameos
- Kitana is very very flexible as she great projectiles and solid meter less dmg. It depends what area of her kit one wants to enhance.

Mavado: I cried real tears when mavado was hard nerfed for no reason. What he offers is, imo, the signature kitana playstyle, convert from literally any touch anywhere. With his HP Buff, this grants the opportunity to use Mavado in way more matchups, as no longer starting at 900HP.

FKameo and UKameo
- used for combos, obviously, but if I see them jump or move I will attempt to get a touch.
Kitana specific
  • AnyFan into FK will mean at least 270 METERLESS DMG. This is legit huge because I am a hoarder of meter to either armour reversal or BREAK. Having a breaker ready most of the game is very strong.
  • MBDF2 is Kitanas ARMOURED LAUNCHER, and of course mavado allows us to convert very easily. This helps kitanas defence and offence. Amour through gaps and convert is massive value, but it is high risk.
Kameo (Trap)
- Lays trap on ground
Kitana specific
  • Throw combo of back throw is the drug. It adds more layers to her offence, which is lacking.
  • On a life lead, if I think they're going to press, I lay the trap. I have clips of this single assist winning me games but it's high risk. Miss timing can cause them to delete your HP, Uses full assist bar.
Kano: Since Day 1 this has been my main. Faysal and I in the early days found great value in Kano assist with Kitana. She has a free escape, block pressure, and being dumb and making it safe. Kano fell off with kitana, but I still use him. With the DB2 buff, it makes her 112xxdb2 worth using mid screen.

BK (Knives)
- Good for space control but is a high
Kitana specific
- The reason I LOVE kano is how his knives make punishing her DB2(Square wave) a risk. The corner escape is crazy, simply by jumping, db2 and timing kano. His knives cover your escape very well. It is tricky to time it as your airborne, kano is completely open to being attacked. It could end badly, so use it wisely

Sonya: Amazing damage, easy combos and now grants a plus overhead. MIX of 14

At work so cant test anything, but I'm curious just how much they lowered the scaling on Square Wave. It used to be a complete waste of time to use so it had to have been a substantial buff to be notable.

This should also open up the use of way more interesting combo routes combining Square Wave with kameo assists instead of always opting for as many Fan Lifts as possible in a combo. Watch this end up making her already bonkers corner combo damage even better.

If the kameo doesn't allow for combos of her auto-shimmy, I think it can be worth spending the meter. 11xxDB2mb DB1 J112 is universal and enhances her strike/throw game. That in itself is a well needed offensive tool.

DB2 scales barely any different to fan,beaten only by DF2. It means we can get a db1 late into the combo, so we can push a bit more damage out. For example
Of Anti Air 2
NO DB2
2xxDB3 MAVADO assist b24xxdb1 j112 =312 DMG No bar 1 Kameo
Using B2
2xxDB2 mavado asset b24xxdb1 j112 = 315.98 DMG No bar 1 kameo

DB2 also has air-invincibility frames, so DB2 anti air is legit. Just made the below to demonstrate
I need to explore more as there's a lot of things to consider, like kameo, meter and where in the combo. I am using it for random conversions into mavado.

Love seeing what you've compiled so far! Have you found or thought of any applications for the square wave buff with Jax kameo?

As of now, from her S2 anti, she gets more damage now, but it's not like it's insanely game changing. I think it'll be down to combo, conversion state and kameo. It is kinda nice knowing that if I db2 can be used in combos and converts, as it has a different hit reaction.

Ye, it was always possible, it just wasn't worth it. Now, it's at least option and opens more Kameos to work around her 112.

This is my intitlal thoughts from minimal testing until I can lol

From further testing using db2 as an ender is never worth it lol.
