It's time for the TYM Championship Games! Join us XBL while we battle it out to see what TYM member is the true king of online play. Show off your skills and see how other masterful players use your favorite characters! Matches will be recorded and posted for all to see! If you would like to be a part of an organized TYM community XBL tournament please contact me asap. Thanks!

Sign-ups are now over for the TYM Championship Games. If you would like to participate but have missed the sign-up you can get an early start on registering for the next iteration! Just contact me at [email protected] with your TYM username, your gamertag, your available play times, and your time zone and I will add you to the list of interested players. I look forward to hearing from you!

I know that online play is not ideal for a tournament setting but with so many of our members spread out it seems like the only viable option for organizing bouts between members.

Below is an outline of the tournament layout I have put together so far:

Tournament Layout:
Contestants will send me their available play schedules. I will make a database of players and their schedules and divide players into assorted tournament times based on those schedules. Players will be added to a bracket by random draw. I will then post the bracket and scheduled match times. At this point players can reschedule if they need to. Each contestant must be defeated twice. When a player is defeated they will join the losers bracket. If you lose a match while part of the losers bracket then you are out of the tournament. The final match will be the winners bracket leader vs. the losers bracket leader, though the winners bracket leader must still be defeated twice since he has not yet lost a match.

Match Layout:
At the scheduled time I will create a private KOTH room and invite both players into the room and a party. The 2 players will face off while I observe the match as a neutral 3rd party. Zoidberg747 will also join the room so he can record the match. Each match will be determined best 2 out of 3. This will continue until all scheduled matches have been fought or decided via alternate means (forfeited, etc.).

Match Posting:
I will have a separate thread dedicated to posting match results, videos, and other relevant information.

Official Rules

1. In the event of game-altering circumstances a call will be made on the spot. In the case of excessive lag the match can be rescheduled. Should the lag persist the participants will have no choice but endure the lag. Excessive lag will be noted in the post match notes. In the event of a dropped connection a decision will be made based on the state of the game. If the match was even or if the dropped player was obviously winning then the match must be restarted. If the dropped player was obviously losing then the match will be called in the winning player's favor.

2. Nothing will be allowed that is not allowed in a true tournament setting. Any glitches, mods, or actions that affect the outcome of a match will not be tolerated.

3. Any participant that is more than 10 minutes late for their scheduled match will forfeit the match.

4. In order to minimize the risk of issues popping up during play all characters must be used with their default costumes.

5. No kombat codes will be used during tournament play.

I'd definitely love to get in on some online tourney action.

The closest offline scene is like 6-7 hours away from me, so this would be great.

Awesome. Anything you do or don't want in the tourney? I'm working on the rules right now and will add them to the main post in a bit, but of course they can changed if they need to be.

Im all for it, as long as we can get a good amount to do it.
I think if we can get at least 10 people to participate that should be enough to start with. We can grow it up from there. I think once we do at least 1 tournament more people will start to show an interest.

No tag matches.

No raiden (too unfair online imo).

For connection sake it would be better if you made a room and the 2 people 1v1d and you looked at winner, but if you are capping then koth is fine.

I agree about the tag matches. This would be a 1v1 tournament. I appreciate your input but I won't be outlawing any characters. I beat Raiden online all the time and I'm sure others can do the same.

I haven't had any connection issues while in private matches, even KOTH. If we experience any severe game-altering issues then we can figure out another method. Being an online tournament, a small amount of lag is to be expected (though I find private matches to be pretty much lag-free).

I'm up for this don't see how this can be taken seriously though because its online with netcode lag and input lag galore.

It's as close as most of us can get to a legit tournament, though. We can at least give it a try and see how it pans out.

If you definitely want to participate please send me a message with your gamertag just so I can have a concrete number of participants available. I can gather scheduling information later. I just want to make sure we get enough people interested to actually run the thing. Thanks!

Alright, I've starting receiving some gamertags from interested players. Once I get enough (10-12) I'll start figuring out the scheduling.

GO VOLS!!!
I know that online play is not ideal for a tournament setting but with so many of our members spread out it seems like the only viable option for organizing bouts between members.

I'm in the process of organizing a Mortal Kombat 9 tournament routine that I can replicate on a weekly or monthly basis depending on how many people are interested and what their schedules look like. If you would be interested in competing in single or double elimination tournaments please post your thoughts and opinions so that I can tailor the the tournament routine to popular opinion.

If this takes off then you will see daily updates on this thread and maybe even a facebook or Google+ page. I'm also in the process of purchasing equipment to record gameplay footage so I will be able to post highlights, finals, and even send you copies of your matches.

Below is a rough outline of the tournament layout I have put together so far:

Bracket Layout:
Contestants will email their available play schedules to me. I will make a database of players and their schedules and divide players into assorted tournament times based on those schedules. Players will be added to a bracket by random draw. I will then post the bracket and scheduled match times. At this point players can reschedule if they need to but still must face they same player they are matched up with. Each contestant must be defeated twice. When a player is defeated they will join the losers' bracket. If you lose a match while part of the losers' bracket then you are out of the tournament.

Match Layout:
At the scheduled time I will create a private KOTH room and invite both players into the room and a party. The 2 players will face off while I observe the match as a neutral 3rd party. At the moment I don't have the equipment to record matches but that will be coming soon. If someone does have the means to record a matches we can see about letting them into the room as well. Each match will be determined best 2 out of 3. This will continue until all scheduled matches have been fought or decided via alternate means (forfeited, etc.)

Match Posting:
I will have a separate thread dedicated to posting match results and relevant information. Once I can record the matches I will also post videos here.

This is a very rough outline of what I am planning. Please feel free to provide constructive criticism, idea, or ask any questions you might have. I plan on dedicating a lot of time to this, so I want to make sure I do it right. I look forward to hearing from you!

If you are interested in participating please send me a message with your gamertag so I can make a concrete list of interested players. Once we get enough I can start the scheduling process. I'm hoping we can crank out the first tournament about 2 weeks from today (the 21st).
I am in. I will send you a friend request today.

Alright, we need about 4 more players to get this thing playable. Of course, the more the better, but it will at least be a start.

I'm completely down for this. It would be really coil if we could turn this into a weekly or even bi weekly thing and maybe even do a stream:)

I definitely plan on doing it at least monthly. Weekly would be great if people become that devoted. I've spent the last hour reading various threads about spam-complainers and scrubs in general, and I'm excited about the prospect of just playing with some legitimately good players. I've been doing random KOTH matches too long...

Is this possible for me even though I play this game online only on Friday Saturday and Sunday?

That shouldn't be an issue. I'm going to be grouping participants based on their available schedules so no matter what we'll find someone for you to fight. Want me to go ahead and add your tag to my roster?

Awesome. You're on. That brings our current roster to 8 (including myself). Just 2 more will be enough to actually run a tournament but hopefully we can get a lot more than that.
