What's new

Just wanted to say thank you.

First time post here. Just wanted to say this is one of the most helpful communities I've ever had the privilege of lurking. I've always been into competitive gaming, but never really got into fighters. MVC3 was probably the most I've ever played a fighter and I maybe put in 100 games max online and had no clue what I was doing. This is the first time i've really wanted to get into a fighter and take it seriously, and this community has really made it possible. All the great tutorials and advice has been incredibly helpful.

At first I couldn't even get a 10 hit combo, but after some serious practice something finally clicked in my head today and I finally understood my character (batman) on a level I never have before in a fighter, and began to get creative on my own and understand how everything was working. I thought I was hopeless at first, but constantly coming back here kept pushing me to keep practicing. I'm proud to say I got my first 25+ hit and 40+% combo!

I know this was a pretty pointless post, but I just wanted to say thanks to all the awesome members here who legitimately seem to care about helping others learn the game and I look forward to being apart of the forums.

Believe me, this community has been a big help to all of us. Sure, we may have our fair share of obstacles, but what community doesn't? In the end, most of us, if not everyone, understand the value of growing our players.

Thank you for this post, we all do appreciate it. And welcome to the site!

Greetings, The Other Father.
Welcome to membership on this site of knowledge, learning, darkly things, discussion and insanity pertaining to MK9 and I:GAU, named TestYourMight.com!

I feel the same way you do about this place. It's an incredible sensation to understand how things work in a fighting game.

Yeah, this is definitely a great site. I've learned a lot just from reading the posts and watching the streams. Good to see a lot of new players are doing the same as us here.

Most of FGCs i see around even hide their knowledges, what's the point?

I don't see nothing on Tekken Community or SF community

This is also my first time post on this site. I'm just curious how long it took you until something clicked in your head because I have been practicing a lot lately but I don't seem to make any spectatcular progress. The best I can do right now is pull off some easy 10 hit combos and occassionally (maybe 3 out ouf ten times) beat the AI on hard mode.

IGAU ist the first fighting game I seriously play. Is there something like a rule of thumb for how long it takes to get from piss poor to let's say intermediate?

Even though I still suck I'd also like to thank this community! Whithout it I still wouldn't have figured out a single combo. lol

A welcome for you too.
Greetings from TestYourMight.com!

The "click" is different for everyone. I believe it occurs when you are able to fit all the pieces together.....it happened to me one day and I didn't even realize it. Of course, knowing how everything works and taking advantage of your knowledge, don't go hand-in-hand most of the time.

Yeah this place is the best honestly.

I love SFxT but the character boards on SRK is a complete wasteland. The only threads active are general discussion and rant threads which is sad. Here there is never a lack of action and/or drama and you can always count on Pig and REO for some good troll topics rofl.

The top players of MK and Injustice are always active and don't hesitate to share knowledge and tech. This is something I don't really see from the Capcom community much.

I've juggled between Batman and the Flash since day one. Then once I grasped all of Batmans very basic moves and useful combo starters I began to make progress and slowly move into deeper combos that required juggling and timing. I did a practice session for 3 hours last night...because once you start to feel it all clicking in place it's intoxicating haha. At first I couldn't do a simple 123, 123 because the timing was so weird, now it's just second nature. I think once you really understand all the basics and the good combo starters of the character you can start slowly progressing into bigger chains/figuring out what works for you better.

I went from having to think about what buttons to press, to simply just knowing. I takes time, but you basically become robotic after doing something for so long; at least that's how it went for me. I'm sure everyone has a different process, but keep with it dood!

Yeah, I too am maining Batman and funnily it's also the 123 string that's giving me the most problems right now. But I've decided to become the best IGAU player in my town (shouldn't be too hard :D), so I'm gonna keep with it!

Maybe it's gonna take another month or so until I'll get to the point where everything's second nature, but I'm totally motivated. Thanks for the encouragement, dood. :)

Yo. I've played Mortal Kombat 9 since the midnight release at my local Gamestop (back on April 16th, 2011), and the "click" never occurred to me till around November 2012. Like I said, it's different for everyone. It is only a matter of patience, but I didn't care because MK9 was hella fun.

Well it is good to know that there is going to be a click somewhere in my future. I've just gotten my first combo incorporating a power into the string (A little 4 hit combo with Cyborg for 22%) that I can hit around 50% of the time. I wish I could say I am practicing against HARD A.I but I still get a challenge out of the Medium A.I. so that is where I sit.

I've got the guide book and also have this site locked up on my tablet. So I am constantly reading and trying to unlock that "click" for myself.
