JamesMK Said MLG Dallas will have Low Participation

How 'bout we prove him completely wrong and make this the biggest MLG ever. I make this thread not to flame jamessmk (please keep it positive) but to use this as a challenge for everyone to make this a big, strong showing for this community.

I can't be there, but I'm helping to sponsor the pot to send someone else. I believe that this could be the most exciting and legendary MK9 tournament to date.. And only we can make it so.

I told jamessmk that I will personally put him On Blast if this tourney has a great turnout.

What do you think? Onward!

I want to go. But flights are up to 300 out of Boston and that's a lot more than I can bargain for. Regardless, I'll be tuning in and supporting in every way that I can.

Sorry to break the bubble, but I think James was right, just because MLG doesn't have that 'peer to peer' connection like other tournaments do. They really need to have more fighting games & fighting game related content at their events, without those FG's will only work for a certain (short) amount of time.
But if you're good and you have some cash to spare, I would say: "GO GRAB THAT MLG MONEY!" (but don't expect much more).

Spirit ill pass on. I'll look into the other two. You book yet?
I'm waiting for my gf to get the day off from work to bring me to the airport plus I need to know the schedule for time off of work.

Spirit isn't bad if you do your research and are aware of what fees you're going to have to pay.

They can't just throw capcom games in there because they feel like it. I'm sure they want to, but there are contractual obligations among other things preventing that..

poor charmander :(
seriously though.... this game .... sigh
the potential to be one of those 2-3 season games is so there.... but if you've watched any of the tournaments post EVO.... you'll notice a HUGE trend.

I see the KH and Arizona guys making up a majority of the players. whats the over under you guys think? 55? 60?

i would so close this thread man
Nah, I know Crimson. He's not trolling, there's nothing malicious about this thread. It's just that he's extremely optimistic and not a lot of people see things his way. Leaving it as is unless something bad happens, which it won't ;)

From what I've read they're unreliable and shitty

Unlike others who would cry for this thread to be closed, I beg for it to remain fully open, and unedited just like the OBS show. Crimson, I applaud you and do not think you are being malicious. I would hope the turn out would be good. I really want to put myself on blast. But, sadly it won't probably happen. MLG dropped the ball on this, not Art or Carlos but upper management. They have waited way too long to announce and I just hope the scene continues to grow, with or without MLG. I see Storms giving the online people more of a voice here and that is a good thing. I do what I do, because I want the scene to grow, while sometimes I seem a bit off my rocker, it's all good. When or If the community has had enough of me, or my EGO grows to that of some of these so called top players, then I will go quietly with warning like I did 10 years ago. But, please I want to be proven wrong. Any OBS members that go, wish you luck. Anyway thank you guys and resume and prove me wrong

I wouldnt be surprised if it didnt have a big showing. It wouldnt really be the communitys fault either. Most people are not rich. It takes alot of money and planning to go to these things. I drove myself into crazy debt just going to locals and majors in my immediate area for 2 years straight. I never had alot of money, even back then, but at least I had months of lead time to plan for it ahead of time. MLG waited so long to announce MK9 that now even people who may have been able to go if they were given enough time to plan ahead might not be able to make it.
Sucks, because I do think MLG is a good thing for the community. Theres always been just some details that could have been hashed out better.

You are completely right. But on the other hand, people want to enjoy their time (and money) in an environment where there are more people that live and breath FG's. Just watching MLG makes my eyes and brain hurt. The only thing you see in between matches are Bic and dr.Pepper commercials, while at the 'grassroots' streams you see MCZ/ Hori & more 'peer' sponsors. OG tournaments also give participants the opportunity to make contact with other FG's & players. The social contact is a major advantage imo, 'cause players can meet & learn from each other & from other fighting games.
Don't get me wrong, I think it's good that there finally are big prize pots but I still think that there is much, much room for improvement.

EGP is renting a 15 seat van, and we expect to bring as many players as we can.

MLG Dallas will have the most entrants. People need to stop listening to negative people, and focus on the positive.

The only reason we even exist in the FGC today is our determination to survive and live on. Be positive, and support your scene.

Mortal Kombat is NOT dead.
the whole MK Dallas scene will be there, including myself
why would we be any less hype just because Dallas might have a low turnout? it's till mk, and that is all we should need for hype

The question isn't can it be done...the question is, will it be done?

This community can do AMAZING fucking things when it takes itself seriously and put its powers together.

There will be few people happer than jamessmk if this show hits all the high notes. I fucking hope it does.
