WARNING: Character main bitching alert, ala Slips.
I've been using this character since day one this game came out. I used to believe that he was upper-mid tier, he had a great projectile, an awesome anti-air move, and some good normals. Things changed since that period, a patch hit and the metagame evolved. My knives went from great to mediocre and my upball can now be punished by things that weren't superman. Along with that, zoning became more and more obsolete as rushdown became more prevalent.
Now my knives are suddenly horrible in comparison to some of the other crap that characters get to throw. Kabal gets to vomit blue lasers as he jumps backwards, Liu and Sindel get to duck state zone as my knives fly over their head and a fireball smacks me in the kneecaps. Freddy gets to not only keep a projectile that emulates my old good knife throw, BUT GETS TO HAVE THREE OTHER ZONING TOOLS ALONG WITH SMOKE-STYLE TELEPORTING. I get a gimped version of Freddy's glove toss, while he also is able to throw a ground-based projectile, make giant hands appear from the ground, and can attempt to get green jello to land on my head and stun me.
My footsies are complete ass. Oh, I'll try to cannonball them in the face with my crappy input and hope they don't block and blow me up. Nothing else to help with footsies other than a bunch of completely average low pokes and a good d1, which is like having the best shit sandwich. Oh look at me trying to low poke Kitana, who's using a fucking knife to poke me and Mileena's fatass legs are constantly smashing into my shins.
My mixups are next to none existent, I got one low starter and nothing else to stop them from just crouch blocking me all day. What am I going to blow up their crouch block with? An overhead that's so damn slow that I could probably make a grilled cheese sandwich by the time it even hits anything? And even if it does hit I get a whole 21%! WOOOOO! Smoke gets a fucking karate chop that's so damn fast it could probably make Sonic the Hedgehog shit himself, while I get this damn K-Mart overhead that can be interrupted by Shang's uppercut.
After all this talk about zoning becoming a shit factor in this game, it's just making Kano look more and more like d tier to me. It really pains me for it to happen since I love the character so much and invested in him from the get-go, but he seriously has like maybe two or three things going for him that are already beaten by other characters. My upball makes a great anti-air, but Kung Lao gets a full combo from his and plenty of characters get AA combos. My X-Ray might surprise someone, but it's not going to stop anyone from just jumping straight out of it and blowing me up.
TLDR; In my current belief, Kano is on the same shit tier as Jade and Sheeva. I mean really? Who does Kano blow up? Sans maybe Sheeva(Who I think could be an even matchup), who else? No one.
I may even think that Jade's better, but I need more experience with her first to really say that.
