What's new

I need some guidance

Seriously, since day 1 I've been running into new problems constantly and I can't for the love of God figure out how to do this shit right. I realize I'm gonna come off a bit desperate here, but I don't give a fuck and guidance was part of what this site was made for.

This game feels different than MK9; I feel like for every different character there's a different way to deal with everything and I have to learn twice as much to learn instead of just basic timing and punishment; I hope you catch my drift there, but that isn't the point. I'm useless as fuck in this game; I can't poke and then hit confirm properly half the time, I whiff my inputs half the time, especially when punishing, I can't properly cross-up, I don't know how to avoid being crossed-up, I can't wake up without being punished, I found out today that reversals can also be punished, the list fucking goes on but the worst of it is probably not being able to use what a specific character has as options. I can't for the life of me get Joker's teeth resets down no more than I can rushdown with Nightwing. Hell, I can't even beat the average trigger-happy Deathstroke, and it's all getting on my last nerve.

So here I am, basically just asking where to start, because I really can't figure this shit out.

Don't overwhelm yourself. 1 thing at a time. The only place to start is the training room. Don't start playing other people until you can pull off 2 bnbs 10 times straight in the practice room. Then you will have a starting place and focus on 1 area when you play people. I don't know about MK and the execution in injustice is pretty easy, but other games I've played in the past suggest your time in a game should be 80% training room, 20% playing others. It sounds like you jumped into fighting others and getting overwhelmed, but didn't put the dozens of hours against the training dummy first.

I'm no pro but I do partake in the tournament scene. I have just a few suggestions.

1. As stated above hit the lab and make sure you can pull off a decent combo. Use the character-specific forums located on this website to quickly learn things about them that would take forever otherwise. Note that all character forums have a combo thread located right at the top of the page, as well as tons of other relevant information.
2. Once you have combos down, take a run through arcade mode to make sure you can pull of your combos in some type of match setting
3. Work on your mobility/neutral game. Basically, how are you getting in on your opponent? What can you do to ensure a mixup or pressure? Which of your combo strings is the safest on block?

Everything else takes practice, preferably with people you know. People better than you.

Play Scorpion, J1 then teleport, MB if the opponent blocks it then J3, cross up J3 then teleport. In case the opponent doesn't block the teleport, J1 then teleport.

The first post is what you need to do. He had it 100% right. Learn some combos that you can pull of 10 times in a row. Practice for a few hours, then go into battles and try out each difficulty setting. In my opinion once you're able to beat the cpu on at least hard then you're ready for online play. Play people better then you. Add some people from this site.

Go to the character forums and learn about each one specifically. Youtube tutorials & guides. Don't overwhelm yourself.
