How does Neutral Game / Wake up Game work in Injustice?

Hey guys, I'm a newb to Injustice and am at a complete lost as to how neutral game work in this game. I'm a strong 2012 player (high tournament lvl) and coming from SF, it seems so radically different than any fighting games I've played which were mainly capcom games.

In SF, there's a few options in neutral game, which is jump, limb footsie, focus attack/focus attack dash-up pressure, and regular dashing/walking up, all of which have a clear answer to. Also, the GOAL of SF is to knock down your opponent so you can do ambiguous set up, meaty, or bait, all of which are in favor of the person standing up.

I can't translate any of that in Injustice it seems like. So my question is, what am I looking to do in neutral game?

I understand if you're playing a zoning character you can chuck away with your projectile but once you're in mid-range, I can only see these options in Injustice, so correct me if I'm wrong.
-Dash up
-Jump in
-Chain attack(and hope that they're dashing up or beat out their whiffed chain attacks)

Most characters are limited by these options no? as there are hardly any characters with long-range, reliable limb-poke, and this game is clearly not based on reactions, as it's not made for whiff-punishing moves.

Also, since there's universal tech rolling/wake-up attacks for all characters across the board, it seems like oki in this game is very even compared to other games where knock down can mean the death of you. Is meaty or wake-up set up even worth doing in this game? Or do you just let them get up without getting paid for getting a knock down?(Although i understand because one combo into MB conversions can end up with damage in high 30% to 40%+)

This game just feels so stiff compared to many other fighting games, it just seems like my characters are so planted on ground and you gotta just spam projectiles and jump in, dash up, or chain-and-pray in neutral game.

I'm failing to see the depth in neutral game here.
