How do you fully learn a character besides what combos they have?

I'm playing injustice and I'm trying to improve but i don't know how i know a lot of combos i can play fairly decent online with the character(batman) but i don't know what but something is missing i feel like i'm not understanding something with the character and on top of that i'm also learning killer frost and i barely know any combos with her just a couple of 40% that i made while toying around with her in many hours of practice same could be said about my grundy i know combos but i feel like i'm missing something i have already logged in nearly 100 hours of practice (60+ batman 20 20 killer frost 30 solomon grundy {played a lot with the demo to learn batman}) can some one explain what i'm feeling or what i'm missing i really want to know

Combo's are really the least important part of learning a character and a fighting game. Movement, learning how to play safe, making correct reads and reacting and adapting are all hallmarks of good players, and that doesn't come overnight or by reading combo lists. Anyone can memorize a few BnB's but actually being able to pull them off is a different story.

You need to understand your character's ranged, where is he better at, where he struggles, what is his fastest punisher, how does he get into his desired range and stay there....

OMEGAFIREBLAZER If you go to the black adam forums, you'll see a post called "How to play Black Adam". It will show you an example of what we usually look for in characters. Such as:

Punishment: I'm assuming you understand frame data? If not there are threads I can link you that will explain that. You want to be sure you are getting max damage and all opportunities to punish opponents using moves that will get them killed. It's great you put in time doing combos, but unless you know how to start them in every situation w/your char, you are hurting yourself

Good moves to use and moves to avoid: Every char has moves that are better than others. Each char forum you go to, there should be a guide on what moves to use and what moves to avoid

Matchups: With any char you play, you want to have a strategy against each char in the game and understand their weaknesses. No matter how hard, EVERY char in this game can be beaten by ANY char in the game, period. Don't let anybody convince you otherwise, every char has a chance and you have to know how to beat the case w/your chosen char, or chars

Hope this helps

I would say the most important aspects to learning a character are (In no particular order):
1. Knowing what is safe and what isn't safe
2. Knowing the frame data for your move set
3. Knowing the reach of all your moves
4. Knowing the matchups
5. Understanding how your character should play

would another way of learning what is safe or not or learning in general versing the extra hard computer and just battling the heck out of it

Very hard is not a bad way to learn how to punish things. You can also record the moves of a char you want to punish and try it that way as well. IGAU has a VERY advanced training mode, play around w/it and you will learn quite a lot. If you are stuck, you can also go to let's say the batman or grundy forums and ask questions there as well, but try to read all the stickied information first cause most likely your question was answered already. If you are truly stuck, I'm sure somebody will help you

a good way of learning what is safe or not is training mode with a character set to reversal (this requires you to know the startup frames of the reversal you are using), or using the record function and testing it manually, or reading frame data on this website.

I like to go into single battles with the computer and put them on very hard. I always make it a mirror match and then i just play against them to be comfortable with the character and learining safe strings and how to punish stuff. But to me a big thing is being confident with your character and having momentum. Once i lose momentum and start playing nervous, i being too passive and dont try to bait anything and it will cost me the match. Hope this helps in any way :)
