What's new

Hi fellow Kombatants!

I go by pacmanface! I am just getting started in MKX. I used to play MKII but I haven't played the series in a long time. I joined because I want to start getting better at the game. I trekked through story mode and now I'm looking to pick up a character to start off my journey.

I've been in training mode and so far I like Goro (Kuatan Warrior), Raiden (Displacer and Thunder God), and Kotal Kahn (Sun God). However, because I'm currently terrible at MKX ( :( ) I want to find a good character to start off with, one who is, excuse the language, beginner friendly so that I can get used to the battle system.

The fighting games I currently play are Street Fighter V (Guile and Necalli with a dash of Rashid) and Smash Bros. for Wii U (Jigglypuff, Roy, and Fox). I look forward to collecting a lot of info from some awesome players here and I can't wait to start getting better!

The blade of osh-tekk is stale.
Kotal is the easiest character execution wise, but you must be smart in order to beat better players with him. Goro is a monster savage beast creature thing up close, if you are good at getting around zoning go with him. Raiden I don't know much about but from what I've seen it doesn't look like you can go wrong with him. He is one of the harder execution characters in a relatively easy execution game. If you can master raiden's move set you can make the stage yours and the opponent fear you anywhere on screen.

If you want some easy mode low execution characters to get you started: Zoneshaper Shinnok, War God Kotal, Slasher Jason, online Scorpion, Brawler Cassie, Alien, and Cryo Sub Zero are ones I would recommend.

Thank you for the suggestions! Two questions though:

1) What do you mean by "online" Scorpion and
2) is there a specific variation of Alien I should use?

Welcome :) The character recommendations here are pretty much spot on. War and Sun Kotal seem like they'd be a good starting point for you. Very honest character. Requires smart play.

Welcome @pacmanface ! Where are you from? What system(s) do you play on? Did you play MK9 and Injustice too? Have you read the MKX comics?
Hi, @Youphemism! I did play a little bit of MK9 (Shang Tsung) and Injustice (Sinestro, Green Arrow) but I haven't read too many of the MKX comics. Are they available digitally? I would like to get into them. I have a PS4 that I play on mostly, but I also have an Xbox One and a Wii U.

I've been watching the History Behind the Warrior series (really awesome series BTW) and I see that some of the story of MKX is within the comics. So I'm sure they should be good to get into.

@Psyren136 Thanks buddy!

Welcome to TYM and MKX. You're in safe hands here. Just steer clear of the flame fests. Any tech or combos you need are are right here, and if you need any Raiden advice I'm more than willing to help.

Resolution through knowledge and resolve.
I play Sun God. Here's some helpful info...

F2 is key to combos with him, but you must let the controller or pad go neutral before inputting it or it comes out too slow to combo. Start with these combos...

B122DB2

Jump in 1, <neutral> F2, DF1EX, <neutral> F2, 21DB2

Jump in 1, F34DF3EX, DF1EX, <neutral> F2, 21DB2

B14DFEX3, D1B2

Remember that his F12 moves forward considerably and it has enough pushback to make it safe. Also, his D1 and jumping 1 are the best in the game.

Thunder God Raiden isn't too difficult either. You can B2 into his Superman to get them in the corner. From there, his neutral J1 and combos shine...

Try this one - B2, B2, 214DF2EX, 21DF2 - Pretty simple with an overhead starter and a respectable 42%

B3hold2, B3hold2, 21DF2EX, 21DF2 - Is a low starter with OK damage.

Also, his EX lightning stuns for some pretty creative resets. Even after being nerfed, he's still very fun and a 50/50 king.

Also, don't sleep on Ninjitsu Scorpion. He hits insanely hard with his resets.

F2, B2, B2, Jump In 3, 11Spear -- then jump over for a cross up 1 - and start your mixups

Last advice, pick up one character - and stick to that character. If you try and learn everyone, when you run into anyone good - you're going to have a rough time.

The comics are mostly what happened before MKX but there's a little of the game story in there too :p You can get them digitally! Comixology, google play and amazon I believe you can download them from.

Also you never answered where you're from lol. Just wondering so that maybe you could find people nearby to play with :)

@Youphemism: I'm a Michigander in the southeastern parts.

@xxFalcon Loverxx: I'm on PS4. I'm in the US. PSN is the same as my username.

@GAV: Thanks for the combo tips! I definitely intend to learn one character and stick with that character. I'm a newbie to the battle system so I think I'd overwhelm myself playing more than one character right now.
