Heroes World (Toronto/Markham/York Region)
Hey all! Jon from Heroes World here just posting that I'd like to become a major venue for offline MK gaming. I run a shop called Heroes World that is located in Markham. We're a gaming hobby shop that carries pretty much anything you might need (Comics, Cards, Boardgames, Mini games, Joysticks, etc). We've got a fairly large gaming space that can be dedicated to video gaming easily. Right now we host Street Fighter and Marvel Capcom sessions every wednesday .
Here is some quick stats:
Where:
Heroes World
8601 Warden Ave (North-East Corner of Hwy 7 and Warden)
Markham, On
L3R 0B4
(905) 948-1949
www.heroes-world.com
We're directly in the North-East Corner in a large plaza with tons of shops. We've got a Future shop, Shoppers drugmart, Mcdonalds, Mr. Sub, No Frills, Pizza Pizza, Cora's, TD bank, Scotia Bank, and many more! Plenty of stuff you can do and eat! There is also TONS of free parking, and bathroom on site.
When:
Heroes World Fighting Game Casuals
TBA - (SF Casuals on Wednesdays, looking to build a MK9 group. Please post if interested)
If we get good turn out we can have a dedicated MK9 night and add that to the schedule.
Equipment on hand:
6 Monitors (4 are confirmed lag free)
4 Xboxes
1 PS3
2 Madcatz TvC joysticks (dual system compatible)
1 Arcadewhip Championship Edition joystick (dual system compatible)
1 Hori EX-SE fightstick (xbox360)
2 Hori Fightsticks (xbox360)
We do not provide pads, mostly because they are very easy to "lose" and are harder to maintain. You are more than welcome to bring your own pads. I do encourage players to bring in their own sticks as well. I've become quite experience in stick repair so if anybody has issues you can always come to me for help. Also i'll be looking for support from the community if more stations are required. I will have at least one copy of MK9 for both xbox360 and ps3, so if we wanna do more stations i'll be asking players to help out and bring a copy.
Tournaments:
I have about 10 years experience in running general tournaments, mostly for Magic the Gathering cards, and various mini gaming (warhammer, 40k, warmachine). I've gotten about a 1 years worth of experience running video game tourneys (Street fighter, MVC3, Arcana Heart 3, etc) so i can run various tourneys if ppl desire. During our casual sessions i'll usually set up a tournament bracket so people can see where they stand competitively . I can also host tournament events on other days that will include prizes if desired.
Will this be free?
Sadly i cannot provide this service and space for free. The upkeep of equipment, space provided, staff on hand, etc, all cost money to keep running. We are a retail store so i must provide incentive for us to run such events. We charge a very fair $5 per session and it usually provides 3-5 hours of gaming which i think is pretty fair. Tournaments would require a larger fee as there are prizes to consider (sometimes products or even just CASH) and more organization. I'd like to say i'm pretty fair, so this is always open for discussion. Say if you show up for an open session and have to duck out or simply don't get much games in, i'll give your your next session free, or simply return your money.
Who are you?
I am one of the owners/operators of Heroes World. I've been playing fighting games like many of you since their beginnings in arcades. I'm new to the competitive scene as I used to just play with buddies or family not really going in-depth. I really got into it when Super Street Fighter IV came out, but MK was always my fav back in the day, so i'm really hoping we can get a good scene and community going. I wouldn't say i'm terribly good but i'm learning, and would love to get in a few games when i'm not organizing.
Here are some pics:
Main showroom stations (usually 3 up front, and then 5-6 in the game room)
The game room (this is during a charity tourney we did, usually not quite so busy)
I hope that's a decent introduction to myself and the venue. At the moment we've added MK9 to the rotation of games during Wednesdays. We've been getting 20-30 players lately but only a handful of them are MK9 players, so i'm definitely looking to expand the mk fanbase!
