What's new

Hello Everyone.

Snave

Noob
What's up TYM!?
My name is Peter. Alias is Snave which is my last name spelled backwards.
I purchased MKX yesterday and it is the first MK game I have played since Trilogy on the N64.
My fighting game background consists of merely the NUNS game franchise, and it is greatly different from DoA, SF, KoF, UMvC3, and MK.
I slightly grasp frame advantage, block advantage, and cancel times, but it's a lot to take it at once.
I chose to play with Takeda, Shirai Ryu, and in practice mode I can do all of his BnBs and a few 38 - 45% combos. I feel he is a weaker character because he is kind of slow and his B21 ( which imo is his best neutral ) is slow to start and is easily punished. I am also having a hard time using his F1-2-2+4-tele cancel into 33 Spear online. I could use some tips on how to handle rushdown characters, how to play defense, and would really like to know what the heck "footsies" are. Basically, I am a nub, and since this is the nub passage I would like some help making it through and becoming at least a "decent" MK player.

Lol although I like him Takeda is slow as hell.
Also, TYM might not be the best place for this. You might get mixed answers, and differences of opinions.
Online is ass. Period.
I don't think anyone really knows what footsies is, at least, I don't. I've gotten five different answers, so I'll leave that to someone else.

These are just my opinions, others may differ. With that said...

For slow start ups you are going to want to wait until a moment you think its safe to do it, otherwise you will likely get punished for it or somebody with faster start up will beat you out. For the rushdown, its pretty much about learning the matchup IMO, you just need to learn what overheard, lows, specials etc. each character has and learn to block them when you know they are coming. This can be difficult though since some characters with a vortex can make it a complete guessing game lol

Footies is kind of like a spacing thing, its when you try to stay close enough so that your longer reaching attacks or pokes will connect to your opponent, but while also trying to stay far enough way so that your opponent cant hit you, idk I have a hard time explaining it lol

I highly recommend watching PND Ketchup's casual to competitive 5 part video series on youtube, Ketchup and Mustard can explain these things better than I can, plus they will be showing you while they explain it, which is a plus.

Syzoth, I play all characters in every storm game. I rate the titles: NUNS2 - NUNS3 - NUNSG - NUNSR. Never played the original on PS3.
Blade, I appreciate your input, and I will watch these videos right now. I used to call Cyrax and Sektor Mustard and Ketchup as a little kid. The explanation of footsies you gave helps, makes me think of zoning with actual hits versus specials.

My PSN is Sliggoo if anyone wants to help me out some.

C88, I was a metagamer for years in NUNS. If "spamming" a single move allows you to win then your opponent is too idiotic to adapt.
