Good mix-up kharacter for beginners?

I've been trying out Sonya, and I do enjoy her. I just find I am getting punished too much, and have trouble closing distance. I am fairly new to fighting games, so someone who is on the easier side would be nice.

I am thinking of trying out Cassie or Jacqui, but I'd love to hear some other ideas.

MK11 isn’t that much of a mix up game but yeah, Sonya, Sub-Zero, Kano, Erron should do

Sub is super easy to pick up and is the most 50/50 based char in the upper tiers right now. The non optimized combos are like 3-5% lost damage, so you can stick to the easier versions without missing much. His game plan is so simple and let's you focus on spacing, wake up game, footsies. He has fewer options than some but he is very solid. Highly recommend.

Sub-Zero or Kano would probably be the best starters for a simple 50/50.

Sub Zero or Erron Black. Kano is also a lot of
fun and very effective for how basic his gameplan is.
