Glitch?

During the boss battle with Reptile, it's now not letting me pick an ally. Is this a glitch or did I accidentally cause it?

Online communications are temporarily turned off until the 14th. So you have to fight him all by yourself.

I believe what @BowTheDeceitful says, and it is true, but I've noticed that the game seems to dictate when I can use an ally in a match or not. Maybe it's just coincidence, but I thought the game decides (scripted) and just gives you the option pre-fight.
