After a post EVO sabbatical Max made his return last week but came up short in the grand finals. He would not have to wait long for another chance as he charged to winners finals with 3-0 victories against Truth's Batman and a returning Tommy's Green Lantern. In a familiar winners finals Max met his first serious threat of the night against PPJ. Looking dominate in the beginning Max seemed to be in complete control, grounding the annoying bird Hawkgirl. However PPJ got back into the game and was poised to tie the set up 2-2. A heartbreaking combo drop cost PPJ a win and gave Max his chance to regain the GBS throne. In grand finals he would meet PPJ again, this time using the diabolical genius Lex Luthor. The first match set the tone, with a trademark PPJ clutch finish that left Max shaking his head and reaching for his drink. Max remained in a relaxed state and they played a close set that lead to a 2-2 tie. In the end PPJ's hopes of a reset was denied when Max started off game 5 with a major life lead that PPJ was never able to recover from. Rally Jackson should apologize. Right after the loss PPJ popped off on Revolver, a final salty moment in a night filled with bitter tears and rants. Max has now won his 22nd GBS and is demanding props for beating Batman/Lex while NOT fighting Catwoman.
The man of many names, Twisted/Limo/TBM, made a rare GBS appearance to complete Chicago's meta with his Aquaman. Also joining the ranks of the top tier was N1k0lass, who used Sinestro instead of Ares(with a dash of Catwoman on the side).
College kid Wafflez was in town for a school project and scored a second round upset against my Catwoman. This sent me raging about Crimson's Catwoman meta thread and would hurt my chances of winning a record consecutive 4 GBS tournaments. The WWE style promo was what I needed to let off steam and regain myself in the losers bracket where I defeated Truth's Batman in a canon matchup, sent Saucy Jack to the Fortress of Saltitude by defeating his Superman and finally won a runback against Wafflez, negating the pop off from earlier. Unfortunately for Selina a 4th GBS win was not in the cards, as PPJ got his revenge from last week's low profiled super by ending my run with a successful super. Surprisingly it was another animal girl and not Bane that ended her streak.
This week we instituted a new format. Since some of our regulars are unavailable every week now and attendance is low we've decided that if there's less than 10 entrants we will run the entire tournament 3/5.
