frame data

hello tym,
i'm new to mk9 and i really want to learn how frame data works. i know there's a lot of confusion about this among noobs like me and i'd like to understand this concept.
k let's start with an example:
say i'm doing 4,4 with sonya. i read 4 has a duration of 41 on block, cancel advantage on block of +10, advantage on block of -11. that would make 42 frames till i can connect with the second 4. On execution though, it says 4,4 is 9 frames.. Clearly my result is very messed up, could u tell me what i'm doing wrong? thx very much

Cancel advantage really is there to tell you if you can cancel something and keep it as a true block string or if it is interruptible.

So if a string is - 11 on block, and cancel advantage is +10, what it is really saying is that the cancel cuts the duration of the move by 21 frames. Because after canceling it, your opponent is still under the same amount of block stun that would normally leave you at - 11, but because canceling releases your character from the animation earlier by 21 frames, thats a net of +10.

So the 9 frame duration of that second hit is just enough for your character to cancel into it before your opponent is released. If the duration was 17 instead, your opponent could interrupt the cancel with a 6 frame poke.

I hope I explained that right. It definitely is confusing stuff.

I know the game is dead, but I'd still like to ask a question.

I've looked at Frame Data a bunch of times for almost every fighter, as well as looked at Game Play Basics but have not seen any indication that Somberness or anyone else has ever posted the frames it takes to:

- complete a forward/backward jump
- dash forward (irrespective of any particular fighter's distance or speed UNLESS that makes a real difference)

I'm forgetting at least one more thing, so when I remember I'll ask in another post instead of edit this one.

i think ur right, dont remember having seen those kind of frame data infos...anyhow they might be pretty much useless, that's the reason u dont see em
