What an incredible tournament we have witnessed from the Video x Games 2013 at St. Maarten! The course of the top eight closely mirrored that of CEO 2013 from June of this year, save for some differences, and leading to what can be constituted as a reenactment between old adversaries. Let's take a quick moment to recap some occasions where the hype shot through the roof!
The conflict between Warchild's Black Adam and PR Balrog's Killer Frost teetered back and forth between these vicious warriors. Dropped combos and reset opportunities ran really high in this set - possibly from nerves or monitor lag? - and in the end, Warchild seizes victory from the jaws of defeat, leaving Balrog to storm off in what was apparently a display of competitive salt.
Meanwhile, at the Winner's Semifinals, the crowd was shocked by the sight of Evolution 2013 champion, VxG/EMP KDZ, getting sent straight to Loser's Bracket by NY Chris G's phenomenal bow wielder! Could this tournament mark the rise of a new champion to rule over the Injustice scene? We would learn this much in the matches that were to come.
Back at Loser's Bracket, GGA Wafflez took a powerful control over the course of the first game, only for KDZ, his composure unshaken even after his fall from the Winner's Bracket, to reverse the situation so drastically in the second match. But nothing came as a greater shock than the conclusion of the third match in which a clever backdash from Green Lantern's b1 2 string opens the door for KDZ to initiate his Super Move and shatter Wafflez's hopes of exacting revenge for his previous loss to the Kryptonian warrior.
Warchild's luck was little better when KDZ crossed his path: although his Black Adam dominated convincingly in the first game, KDZ turned the odds back into his favor and snatched a 2-1 victory against Warchild through an air-to-air clash in the corner. This would set the stage for an unexpected runback from the Loser's Finals of CEO 2013, when Perfect Legend would meet him there after losing a battle of zoning and patience to Chris G's Green Arrow!
With Scorpion having received his nerfs from the game's previous patch, Perfect Legend resolved to stick it out with Batman. He openly declared that Scorpion was not the reason for his wins, that it was his prodigious skill that earned him his place in the Top 8...and he proves this by defeating the EVO 2013 champion, who walks away with third place!
And with that, an even greater reenactment would commence...
Coming from the Loser's Bracket in Grand Finals, Perfect Legend shelves his Dark Knight in favor of Doomsday to compete with the likes of Chris G, hoping to cause differing results. And that choice has paid off, enough to ensure a 3-1 win in Perfect Legend's favor and then another 3-0 win in the reset!
We thereby extend our congratulations to FNATIC Perfect Legend for winning Injustice: Gods Among Us! If you recall his tournament record from his history in the Mortal Kombat 9 scene, and have paid attention to his progress in the first tournaments of Injustice's life-span, you can be sure of one thing: Carl is only just getting started with his rise to the top.
