You could try switching the grab and the block buttons around if you use a pad, because the r2/trigger buttons take a moment longer to register the input.
NkdSingularity 's advice would help you some. But honestly, you really don't want to spend your meter on eX Teleports too much; believe me -- it's a tough habit to shake once you get it going.
