Man I'd be lying if I said I had any idea what the Maine scene was like. I'm sure people there play games but I don't know who or where. I do know there's a Facebook group for ME fighting game players, you may want to join that, ask like "hey does anybody here play MK or know where the MK is being played", something to that effect.
