For the first time in a number of weeks, Emperor Theo has once again found himself at the top of the WNF IGAU food chain. With the competition intensifying each week, it's become harder for anyone to keep a grip on the top spot; but Theo has stayed consistently close, and this week he was able to earn his second victory at Super Arcade. Top 8 is always competitive at WNF, and this week found Theo, Chef, Slayer, Godspeed and Krayzie all vying for the top spot.

It was musical chairs this week, with Slayer having knocked Theo into losers earlier in the Bracket. Slayer and Chef would meet in Winners Finals, with Chef playing his Zod and Slayer sticking to his trusty Superman. Chef started the set by keeping his distance and feeling Slayer out. It was an interesting first match, with Chef throwing everything in sight, and both players punishing each other to the last bit of their lives until Chef finally forced Slayer to kneel to him after an AA Zod Charge read. The Second match started similarly, but Chef gained control as the match went on and kept Slayer from establishing his momentum. Chef used Zod's slow Kryptonian Rifle to keep Slayer out of the air, and his trait to keep Superman on the defensive, eventually cornering him and catching him with yet another AA Zod Charge to take the set and advance quickly to Grand Finals.

The rematch in Losers Finals between Slayer and Theo was a batlle for Superman supremacy, and it started with both players attempting to zone each other out while dodging mostly everything. Theo's momentum started after he caught Slayer coming in with a quick post-zap f2, but Slayer eventually came all the way back and caught Theo with a corner combo to a dive reset, forcing Theo into a last-minute clash. A wild laser-zoning battle ensued in the final seconds, with the lead going back and forth by inches and Theo eventually winning the match by a razor's edge. Slayer started off the second game on a rampage, taking Theo's first life bar within 8 seconds of game time and threatening a perfect before Theo found his footing. After Slayer won with relative ease, Theo responded in Game 3, making good reads and stopping Slayer in his tracks with a Zap every time he tried to move. Eventually Theo cornered him and punished him repeatedly to take the win and advance 2-1.

Grand Finals was a match we've seen before, and Chef's Zod has been able to keep up with various Supermans in recent weeks. The two started off evenly, but Chef dropped a number of combos that would have earned him a solid lead, and Theo eventually caught him in a damaging corner combo to take the first game. Theo again cornered Chef straight-off in Game 2 and grabbed a huge lead, but Chef put on a display of Zod tech, comboing off the Ferris log trap interactible, reversing Theo's wakeup afterward for a punish, and bringing himself all the way back as the commentators yelled in excitement The endgame was close, but Theo caught chef and then stuff his attempted Zod Charge with an air laser to reset the bracket 2-0. Theo pummeled Chef mercilessly to start the second set, and although Chef brough himself back with a pair of timely reads, Theo eventually shut Zod's offense down with Superman's zoning for the win. With the commentators yelling for Chef to switch characters, he went to Sinestro and played well at the start of a veery evenly matched Game 4. But as the clock wound down, Theo cornered Chef and it looked like his hopes at redemption might be over. But Chef caught Theo out of his pressure with a b3 into combo to put him within an inch of his life; and Theo narrowly avoided Sinestro's killing blow in a desperate scramble as he just barely caught Chef with a duo of air lasers to take the win.

Although some of the same players have been hovering around the Top 3 at WNF for weeks now, there's never a gurantee as to who will win, and it's always interesting to see who emerges with the victory. The final match this week was exciting, with Rip and Aris repeatedly yelling "Ohhhh!" and "Oh my god!" and the crowd of onlookers gasping in disbelief. After a long hiatus, a Superman has again made his way to a championship at WNF; and in a tournament where the players are more familiar with that matchup than anywhere else in the country, that could spell trouble for the players of other characters in the weeks to come. But everyone continues to level up week by week in SoCal. Congratulations to Theo -- and here's to a memorable remainder of WNF's summer season.

EMPEROR_THEO

I only use characters with wakeup scoops.
Is "Free Slayer" a clan? They keep doing so well at WNF. I've seen "Mostly Free Slayer", "Maybe Free Slayer", "Mega Free Slayer", "Mucho Free Slayer", and "Morbidly Free Slayer" all place top 8 at this event.

All their members happen to play Superman as well. Props to those guys.
