Dream scenario: Every matchup an even matchup?

Hat Trick
So the patches have been great so far (from an intermediate player perspective, but I'm not seeing a lot of NRS hate), and I hope they keep coming. Kenshi now seems solid, Mileena looks scary, Kitana too, and erron and raiden aren't as scary as before but still look totally viable.
If this trend continues, and even to the point where each variation is totally usable at high level play, will matchups be an issue?
Yes matchup knowledge is important. But assuming two of the best players know every minute detail about every variation and the respective matchups, will there ever be a 6-4 or 7-3 matchup?
Or would the best case scenario be variation A has 6-4 but variation B has 5-5 and variation C has 4-6 all against another character's variation.

If I were designing the game, I would hope that every matchup is around 5-5 and variations are only there to help with play style preference. What is everyone else's thought?

Not possible, although mostly because you're confusing matchups with tier lists. Unless everybody has incredibly similar moves, somebody's inevitably going to have a bad matchup against someone.
