Do you tap your directional inputs or slide your thumb? (Pad)

When I first bought MK9 I though that you had to slide all of your inputs, and that the two directions shown to be required for your special moves actually included the diagonal, so I got used to sliding my thumb. With the exception of B+F motions, I always slide my thumb when doing directional inputs.

In Injustice, since I prefer doing B+F instead of a half circle, I play with the original directional inputs and my thumb sliding has worked completely fine. Is it the norm to simply tap both (or all 3) directions? Or am I of the majority?

I use directional inputs, that's 99% of the reason why I play Mortal Kombat and Injustice instead of other fighting videogames.
