What's new

Destiny begins when it ends.

Fans of the Halo series know the person who's talking very well. This is some great new footage for those of us going through beta withdrawals. I enjoyed the PvP MUCH MUCH more than I thought I would (didn't even realize there was traditional PvP in the game pre-beta) but that just might be due to decades of FPS experience.

Don't think @Eldriken noticed me sliding into enemies that one time we connected. Probably too busy assuaging his IRL bloodlust.

I and many others have also figured out a multitude of ways to make a game within the game.

Unless you are besieged with gross incompetence, it should be fairly obvious who my character was/will based on.

Decided to get a PS4 when the game drops. Hit me up

@Qwark28 Stop being a fraud and give it another chance.......Okay well myabe the first one is going to be very difficult to do, but give it another chance.

I will be on there so hit me up. I didn't like the PVP though so I will probably just do the co-op stuff.

Sweet. Be like me and make Killer Frost. Any class should do, though my Warlock was badass. We can have a 2 man squad and wreak havoc on players, causing them to rage quit and ingesting their salt for sustenance.

Bring it.

@G4S Claude VonStroke What console are you getting it on?

I'm not going to bother with the PvP much, if at all, @Rickyraws. But we can do plenty of co-op and I'll somehow PK you. =P

I'm glad consoles finally have a game like that lol. The videos made the game seem way cooler than the crap I've been reading on other gaming sites. Everywhere I turn people are bashing it, but from what all is in the OP the game looks fun to me. oh well.

I'll just leave this right here
Looks much better than the beta- at least seeing that I'll eventually get powers that elevate my Titan above herp-derp shooty-shoot.

I like that they seem to understand the Borderlands concept of having to make skills mesh well with each other- to force the player into a distinct playstyle- like the melee ability making the fists-of-havoc ability charge faster. It makes you more inclined to use your abilities in unison to complement each other- creating the feeling of it being an actual class, rather than a shooter with some bonus abilities. the gear also seems to have a similar effect- your encouraged to build around getting your abilities faster.

So this definitely helps. The beta of the game was basically a first person shooter with nothing unique about it- you shot things, and used an ability every 2 minutes- it's nice to see you eventually get to the point where the game plays like it should. My only issue is it seems to take a while to get there now.

It still showed me that even in the final product, I have to grind quite a bit before my character starts playing interesting.

It's BETTER knowing that I'm going to eventually get a cool character that can use his abilities more than once a month- although, the level 28 character I was shown in that video still had alot less choices in abilities than I'd expect from a level-and-loot RPG game.

I take it you haven't played any ARPGs? I know this is an FPS RPG, but it has grinding elements to it as most ARPGs do and it's only through grinding does your character start to play interesting.

Conversely, I play alot of ARPGs, which is why I dislike alot of elements of Destiny. It feels like it has ARPG elements, but since they aren't as much a core focus, there's less of it.

Even in the beginning of Diablo 2, Torchlight 2, or Borderlands 2, in ALL those games you can use your starting ability more often than you can in Destiny at the start of the game. They have grinding, but immediately from the start of the game, it's clear you are playing your character.

There's also less skills per skill tree. They only showed 1 in the video, but just going by that count, that skill tree has less abilities than any comparable skill tree in Torchlight 2 and Borderlands 2. I know there's separate variations, but there's also variations of each class in Torchlight 2 and Borderlands 2, and they STILL have more skills than Destiny by comparison.

For example:

The Destiny build shows a fully-upgraded Titan sub-class. He has 8 skills, plus an additional skill conferred by gear. So we can say 9.

Comparatively, any final class build in Borderlands needs to have at LEAST maxed out 14 skills. And there's gear that gives skill points as well, like in Destiny, so we can count on at least a proportional increase (though most class mods give at least two added skills)

If I get Destiny for my decoy ps3, I can transfer my save to ps4, but won't be able to play coop with my minions on 360. This seems like it shall transpire, however, as political reasons will prevent me from having my ps4 on release day. I could wait the extra weeks and just get the ps4 version cold turkey but I'm not about that life:
