Desire to start a stream, but I need help

So, I potentially have something in the works... and I want to get a stream going in case this said 'something' happens.

Right now, I have....


with...

• 1 TB external hard drive

I have the impression I need a capture card. Should I get a AverTV HD DVR? I have the impression that is what connects the system to my latop...?
Yeah, I'm completely new to this.
Any and all suggestions and help would be glorious.

Talked to STORMS via AIM on the night this thread was made. After I test some things out, I'll be sharing the results with him and helping him to choose some courses of action.

If you use screen region, then I don't think so...if, on the other hand, you want the best quality possible, you'll need a strong laptop to avoid potential lag from live HD streaming. 8 gigabytes at least is the requirement, from what I've been told.

whats the programme you use for streaming?

I stream as well. Use a green screen ect ect.

you don't even need a awesome hardrive unless you're recording offline for YouTube or Something.
