Delayed Wakeup...should MKX consider it? (plus other Wakeup discussion in general)

Get your guns on. Sheriff is back.
I mentioned some stuff in another thread regarding wakeups and it got a little bit of interest so I felt we should have a discussion. In particular the topic of Delayed wakeups is a really good one to bring up.

Essentially instead of getting up at a set interval the player could "delay" and get up or roll or whatever they planned to do later. In many games there is a long time limit to this delay and nothing happens till you press a button. It helps mitigate vortexes and a lot of shenanigans.

Do you feel MKX could use it? Discuss what you think it will do both good or bad for the knockdown game in MKX.

Also on the table is any and all thoughts, ideas and suggestions regarding ways to expand on the wakeup options for this game. How much is too little and how much is too much...lets debate!

And as always with debates keep it civil ;)

As I said in that other thread as well.
Maybe, MK9 had it. You just held down and you could stay on the ground for awhile. You could even hold block well doing it, so it made it completely safe, except for overheads.

Either way, I think MB throws causing a restand into large advantage will be even crazier.

Like in KOF where you roll? its not a bad Idea in MK. But if my opponent chooses to stay on the ground, I will abuse Ermac's TKL without mercy...

Dude what is this? MK9 had it, what makes you think MKX won't have it?

Anyway, In MK9 you had delayed wakeup, but you would lost all your invincibility if you do them, which means in exhange all your wakeup moves could be stuffed, but if your ex wakeup had amor you would still have a viable wakeup.

Its a good mechanic to have in the game! In my opinion it allows for more mind games which I like, So I hope they keep this feature! Along with after you kill your opponent and he lays there for a while before the next round starts lol.

To be honest though, just because MK9 had it, doesn't mean MKX will have it.
MKX is not MK9, and they removed the function for Injustice, since they wanted Oki to be more important.

Who knows what they want for MKX, it could come back, or it might not, or we could see a similar concept, but less powerful.
They do seem to want Oki to be more important though, since they removed invincibility on wakeup for normal moves, so now you have to at least spend a bar to get it.

Its important to note that in MkX that only EX special moves will be given invincibility on wake up instead in Mk9 and Injustice.

Buuuuut. Remember that not having a crossup option makes "vortexes" in this game a ton more limited. Its unlike Injustice and SF4 on knockdown.

Delayed wakeup would be nice if it was in like Mk9 but the more I think about it, I think I'd be okay if it was canned. Better safe than sorry when it comes to vortexes though.

Also remember that Paulo CONFIRMED on twitter that there are invincible backdashes so thats "sort of" an option on wakeup if the opponent doesn't do a meaty attack on you.

I will agree that Oki might have been too weak in mk9, but I don't think it should be as strong as injustice. The block button should help but still it concerns me.

Same. MK9 sorta had delayed wakeup, Injustice did not...this means I don't know what to expect really. Hoping we see more delayed wakeups...possibly a roll or some kind of meterburn option for wakeups to help escape but not for free as that would overly punish folks for earning knockdowns.
Oki is big business for fighting meta. I'm hoping for a lot of focus on the balance and tools that go into it for the new MKX fighting system. Raiden's Power lines scare me if its possible to set them up on someone waking up...makes me Ky Kiske levels of afraid seeing that thing.

I just want for once in NRS game time..... to have ALL characters not have a safe wakeup attack in any shape form or fashion.
If it is safe in the neutral... then it should have -1 invincible frames.

Ok can someone refresh my memory: how exactly did mk9 wakeup game work? I remember roll, stand and delay wakeup but were you vulnerable during a roll?

In MKX if they decide to keep the delayed wakeup like MK9, they need to keep roll backs punishable. Or even easier to punish.
