Long story here so bear with me. When MK9 was released, I was working for the government in Afghanistan. I was over there for all of 2011 and 2012. This resulted in my not being able to play MK9 until it had already been out for nearly 2 years. I was so far behind the curve that I never really developed interest in playing it. I bough it, of course, just to check it out. It was indeed pretty awesome and I liked it a lot but it was just like the other console versions of MK that I never got into.
I am a child of the 80's and 90's. I grew up in the arcades and not with home consoles like a lot of kids today. My passion (and probably will always be) are the arcade versions of MK. MK1 was released when I as 12 years old and I was immediately hooked. The same story goes for MK2-MK4. I was in the Navy in 2002 when DA was released and it was so drastically different the 4 arcade predecessors that I remember thinking "What the hell is this crap?" I was impressed, don't get me wrong, but the gameplay and feel was something so different from what was used to that I never developed the interest in learning the new styles and types of gameplay that DA had to offer. The same goes for all the subsequent console releases of the later MKs.
So being that I am a self-professed arcade enthusiast, I wanted to build a 'dedicated' MK9 arcade machine because I had every intention of learning and competing in the game but after I completed the project, I quickly lost interest to Injustice. I find myself playing my Injustice machine much more than the MK9. And with MKX coming out next year (yes, I will be building a machine for it too) I feel that my MK9 cabinet will fall almost completely by the wayside. Besides, if the controls stay true to what they've been for years, I should still be able to play MK9 on the MKX machine....so....
With that all being said, I am contemplating selling the MK9 machine. It's a fully custom build that is not like anyone elses (GGA and Netherrealm are the only other people/places I am aware of besides myself that have one). I just want to guage interest in what you guys think it might be worth or if I'd be able t sell it at a price that wouldn't seem outrageous. I'll just say that as the machine sits now, I've got roughly $1500 invested in it.
Here is a rundown of all the main components and details...
-) Cabinet was originally a factory MK4, not something that I had to build
-) Full, custom artwork package that I designed myself
-) Real 25" Tri-mode arcade monitor running VGA converted from an component HD signal from the PS3
-) 2.1 computer speaker system with original speakers removed and wires ran to the factory cabinet speakers
-) Brand new t-molding
-) Custom monitor bezel art featuring every character's full move set (even the DLCs)
-) Brand new buttons and joysticks
-) Backwards-compatible PS3 which is capable of playing ALL the PS2 console MK games (MK5-8, Shaolin Monks, etc)
-) Hacked wireless PS3 controller for P1 controls and hacked wired PS2 controller for P2 controls (needed for PS2 game compatibility)
-) Working coin door lights
-) 'Select' button on the control panel to allow escape from the MKAK
-) 'PS' button on the control panel for ease of system shut down/game escape
-) Various other items
Here are some pictures and a video of what the machine looks like so those of you who haven't seen it can get an idea and offer your 2 cents. I'm still 50/50 on selling it, but like the thread title says, I'm thinking about it. I'm interested to hear opinions and thoughts. Thank everyone...
