Completely Green to Fighting Games

Hello, I recently bought MKX and became enamored with the game within a couple of days.

The problem however is that I had perceived myself as being pretty good until I tried out the online and I faced two people who used Scoripoons and I couldn't get off a single hit period.

I used to be the kind of player who lived off of luck, I would randomly press buttons and hoped that it chained into something fruitful. This was always the way for me especially when I faced my irl friends.

However, I've gotten tired of this lifestyle and I've begun to search on all kinds of websites for a site similar to this one that breaks things down. I joined in hopes of getting better but I was greeted with a bunch of terminology and numbers that made my brain hurt and make me want to give up but I decided to stick around and learn.

If anyone would have any suggestions on the best ways of training I'd appreciate that.

So far my favorite characters to use are Jax Pumped Up), Kung Jin (Ancestral), Jacqui Briggs (Shotgun) and Kung Lao (Buzz Saw).

It's nice to be here and I hope to learn as much as possible!

Most important thing is to not give up & spend the time in the dojo. I was brand new to fighting games less than 2 weeks ago, I have learned a lot, and mastered a few characters. I started off with an online record of 25 wins, 25 losses, and would get beat bad... Put in the time to learn and now I'm 200+ wins, 50 losses, and keep on improving.

I recommend learning the lingo, and watching streams of high level players on twitch.

Don't run, you're gonna trip...
Welcome, I'm glad you have made the decision to actually look at the game in a more sophisticated way.

First things first, learn the game. Learn how blocking, movement, meter, and the pace of the game works. This will give you a very important basic look at what the game allows you to do and not do.

Then, learn ONE character (ONE, not two, or five, ONE) It's important because you will be able to be comfortable faster picking one character and using a specific set of tools related to that character. Use that character to break the game down in a way that you get comfortable. Go to training mode and break your character down until you know every little instance of that character so you don't get that deer in headlights look when you lose.

Just take it slow, don't rush into things, trial and error is a mandatory thing in fighting games, its about how you learn from those losses or short comings that you will be able to grow naturally instead of forcefully.

Feel free to PM me if you need any tips, I'll be glad to help out bro!

This its where you want to be if you are looking to level up. I came in here green when mk9 came out and now I consider myself to be a pretty solid player. I learned everything I know from reading and communicating with people on tym.

I suggest starting by reading the threads in your favorite characters forums with regard to strategy and optimal combos. This will give you a basis to work with. You can get into the deeper strategies and dig into learning frame data and matchup knowledge later on because you don't want to overwhelm yourself. Learning consistent combos and basic strategy and set ups is the best place to start imo. Then take what you learn from training mode into ladder to test it out on a moving opponent. Dint bother with online until you have at least basic combo knowledge, punishes and setups or it will just be frustrating
