It's no secret that the NJ/NY area of the US has produced one of the more recognizable and talented groups of players of Mortal Kombat 11 to date. Players like Kombat (12 in the Pro Series standings), Grr (16th in the Pro Series standings), K7 Showoff (recent winner of Frosty Faustings), Splash, Pulse, etc. have been mainstays of Top 16s and Top 8s in both the online and offline scenes. A number of them are also active streamers with their own followings on Twitch.
It's likely that part of this momentum is owed to a pair of events that have offered a chance for local players to come together and sharpen each others' skills on a regular basis. Two of the organizers, New York's Coach Steve and New Jersey's DarthArma, have each been running series in order to give the area's players a chance to test their mettle.
In New York, Coach Steve, an active competitor in MK11 as well as other games, runs a bi-weekly event named DangerZone. The tournament takes place on Tuesdays, and is held in the Bronx in New York City. Anyone who is able to attend can do so tonight, or on February 28th in two weeks time.
Known for his commentary, and for his run as a competitive player in Injustice: Gods Among Us, DarthArma organizes and promotes a series to the east of the river in the New Jersey entitled "MKNJ". Their last iteration, the seventh tournament so far, featured more than 60 entrants.
For those who might want to attend, here are the venues for both events:

Next event: Tonight! February 11th (8:30 PM tourney, 7:30 casuals)
