Cheese/Cheap Counter Thread

I was going to make a "How to beat a cheap, noob Scorpion spamming teleport" thread but realized there quite a few characters being cheesed online. So, go ahead and post the character you've noticed being cheesed and your advice to counter it.

Please note this is not a thread about Char X being OP or broken. It's not about character's being inbalanced. It's specifically about (usually) new players spamming a perceived cheap attack repeatedly.

I haven't played much online so unfortunately I don't have anything ATM to add but rather just a framework to post your strategies.

Honestly, I'm surprised no one has responded to this. Bumping back up incase anyone has any strategies.

To get it started, I see alot of people upset a GM Sub Zero's basically cheesing them with ice balls and hiding behind clones the entire match(read basically nothing but that). I've found teleporters have an easy fix around it but for non teleporters. The ice balls do no damage(including chip) so you basically have to bait him out. Also, if you have a projectile or other armored attack(prolly with meter burn), try using it to break the ice clone and hit sub. The guy is probably a cheese-noob and won't know how to reach when you get up in his face.

Level up. If the same move is hitting you over and over again (and we're not talking online here, which is wholly irrelevant to becoming a better player and where lag abuse will run rampant regardless), go to the lab and find something around it. Most strategies in this game can be beaten by good prediction, blocking, and punishing. The game's practice mode even lets you practice against any string you don't know how to beat!

There are already threads about how to get around ice clone - the fact that you think only "cheese-noob" sub zeros throw ice balls behind clones means you have a lot of character learning to do to begin with. That's what that character DOES. Hell, you even answered your own question with teleportation moves. At the end of the day, each character and each variant's options against any given strategy will differ. What remains the same is having the KNOWLEDGE about what other characters' moves look like, whether they're plus or minus, and what YOU and your character's options are to start pressure, poke out, and punish strings.

From your post it looks like you're largely playing online. Know that many serious players interested in becoming better players do not use online as a measuring stick for anything because the lag dynamics change move properties, which makes a MONUMENTAL DIFFERENCE. Things like a blocked Scorpion teleport can be full combo punished pretty easily offline, but online can be a free pass due to connection issues, netcode issues, whether it's raining in your area, and a million other things. If your response is "but it's my only option / I like playing online / whatever", then acknowledge the different move properties (which makes it a completely different game in terms of what is/isn't possible) and find something that works in THAT medium. Know that attempting to get better off of online strategies will always be faulty for this reason. Good luck out there.

Good replies. I made sure put in my section on GM Sub Zero that cheesing ice ball ice clone, as in that's all they do. That's not strategy IMO, that's cheese. Should the ice ball/clone be in their arsenal...absolutely, but it should not be their entire arsenal.

You could argue in a tournament setting, you're playing to the strength of the character. If that's the case, we'll have to wait for high level tournys to see how GM Sub Zeroes are used and what strategies are accepted as being "honorable", for lack of a better term.

Also, my intent was to create a centralized thread where perceived cheese tactics could be discussed and countered. It was not Sub Specific. My apology if my intent was not stated clearly.
